Dallas Cowboys Player, Jay Ratliff, Gets DWI

Dallas Cowboys Player, Jay Ratliff, Gets DWI

ESPN Dallas reported that “Dallas Cowboys starting nose tackle Jay Ratliff was arrested and charged with DWI in the early morning hours Tuesday after he crashed his 2011 Ford pickup truck into an 18-wheeler.” Police officials from Grapevine, Texas responded quickly and fled to the location of the accident, 2800 block of East State Highway 114, to conduct an investigation.

During the investigation procedure, Ratliff was apprehended for suspicion of DWI. However, he was let out on Tuesday morning. It was determined that nobody received any injuries. The police investigation report stated that “Ratliff was traveling in the middle lane, slightly ahead of of the semi, before turning into the 18-wheeler’s lane…his truck was then “turned sideways and struck a median protector…and came to a stop.”

Dallas Cowboys officials and Mark Slough, who represents Ratliff, refused to make any comments on Ratliff’s case. However, it was commented that “Ratliff is considered one of the more passionate players on the team.” Although Ratliff underwent a sports hernia surgery during December, he was still kept on the active roster in hopes that he would play in the playoffs. Unfortunately, “any NFL player that is arrested is subject to the NFL conduct policy which could result in a fine or suspension.”

Tacoma Councilman Ryan Mello Suspected of DUI

Tacoma Councilman Ryan Mello suspected of DUI

Mello

Washington State Patrol arrested Tacoma City Councilman Ryan Mello for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sunday morning. Councilman Mello’s 2012 Hyundai Sonata crossed onto the shoulder of the road twice before he was stopped by a trooper. Officials reported that there were three passengers in Mello’s car at the time.

According to the State Patrol’s police report, Mello was “polite and cooperative” with the officer, and he voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests. The trooper reported that he could smell alcohol on Mello’s breath. The councilman admitted to drinking alcohol earlier in the day, and he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Mello was taken to the Tacoma Police Department for processing, and patrol spokesman Guy Gill confirmed that Mello’s blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeded the legal limit.

Mello’s car was impounded and another trooper gave two of Mello’s passengers a ride home, while the third passenger rode with the tow truck driver. Mello was released from the police department and was picked up by a friend.

According to an update of the story, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist has forwarded the case to a prosecutor in another county for a charging decision because he said he and Mello are friends which presents a conflict of interest.

Mello is the executive director of the Pierce Conservation District and is beginning his second year on the Tacoma City Council.

Underage DUI: 15 Year Old Arrested For DUI In Reno

reno crashA 15 year-old teenager was arrested for DUI after rolling his car in Reno, Nevada on January 21, 2013. Troopers responded to a crash regarding a rolled vehicle on US 395 at around 6:20 a.m. that was the result of an underage DUI. Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, police learned that the 15 year old suspect was driving his 2005 Ford Focus southbound on the highway near the Parr Blvd on ramp when he drifted off the right edge of the roadway. The car then struck a drainage culvert causing it to roll several times before finally coming to a stop about 40 feet from the highway. Fortunately, the suspect was wearing a seat belt and was not thrown from the vehicle.

Police noticed that the underage DUI suspect displayed several symptoms of alcohol intoxication and did not pass a preliminary alcohol breathalyzer test. The 15 year old was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center following the crash where he was treated for minor scrapes and abrasions. Police briefed the suspect’s mother before he was released and taken into custody at the Jan Evans Juvenile Center. The suspect was then booked for DUI first offense, failure to maintain travel lane, no proof of insurance, minor in consumption of alcohol and no valid driver’s license. Since this is an underage DUI case and the suspect is only 15, DPS policy prohibits the release of his name.

DUI Driver Crashes Through House at 100mph

Drunk Driver Crashes Into House at 100 mph

James Kelly Anderson, 28, lost control of his SUV and ripped through a house before coming to a stop in the backyard. Officials believe his SUV must have been traveling at least 100 mph, considering his SUV drove through five rooms before finally stopping after it ripped through to the other side of the house. It is believed that Anderson was under the influence (DUI) at the time of the wreck. The owner of the home, Greg Buckland, 37, was in one of the bedrooms and was injured but has survived.

Anderson fled the scene after the crash but was caught minutes later. He has been charged with suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), hit-and-run, reckless driving, and criminal mischief. The owner of the house, Buckland, believes that the house shifted inches off of the foundation due to the impact of the SUV. Nearly all of the furniture in the house has been destroyed, including three TVs and a fish tank.

Buckland tried to prevent Anderson from leaving after the crash. Buckland asked Anderson after the crash, “What in the world were you doing?” to which Anderson replied, “Obviously, I just drove through your house.” Buckland said Anderson got in his face before running off.

Simcoe sources reported that a Canadian drunk driver from Innisfil “was able to fool police and court officials into believing he was his brother.” The 27 year old drunk driver was charged for driving impaired. Amazingly, the ” deception wasn’t discovered until the man’s brother received a notice in the mail saying he had been convicted of impaired driving and his licence was suspended.”

The brother immediately reacted by calling the South Simcoe Police department to file a complain. He told them that they had made a mistake by stating that they “had the wrong man and that his brother had used his name from the time he was arrested to the time he was convicted.” The police department conducted an investigation until the drunk driver was finally located and arrested. The drunk driver was also charged with a second count for obstructing justice. He was released and summoned to report to Bradford’s Provincial Court next month.
