SF Archbishop Jokes About His DUI Arrest

On Thursday, San Francisco Roman Catholic archbishop, Salvatore Joseph Cordileone joked about his former DUI arrest that occurred this past August. He was recently placed as the new “archbishop amid ceremonial splendor” at San Francisco’s Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. According to the Associated Press, Cordileone said to the audience, “I know in my life God has always had a way of putting me in my place. I would say, though, that in the latest episode of my life God has outdone himself.”

On August, Cordileone- who is a native from San Diego, California- was stopped at a late-night checkpoint near San Diego State University after having dinner with his mother. He was then apprehended and arrested for DUI into the county jail.

Cordileone pleaded guilty to the minor charge of misdemeanor reckless driving in the case, and has been summoned by the courts to delegate his case on Oct. 9. His attorney submitted the plea to San Diego County Superior Court. Cordileone’s penalty was a “three years’ probation,  a $1,120 fine, and mandatory attendance to a panel discussion sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.” Archbishop Cordileone deeply apologized for his behavior and the negative attention it gave to the Roman Catholic church.

Antonio Canderlaria Calls Police On Himself For DUI

Drunk Man Calls Police On Himself

Antonio Canderlaria has had several DUI offenses in the past and can add one more to the list after calling cops on himself. Apparently, Canderlaria was at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in his own driveway, when he got pinned under his motorcycle and had to call police for help. When they arrived, they found that his blood alcohol content(BAC) was .16%, which is twice the legal limit of .08%. Canderlaria had got his foot stuck under the motorcycle and couldn’t get out from under it on his own, possibly because he was too intoxicated. It’s odd though that Antonio Canderlaria couldn’t have asked a family member, friend or neighbor for help and instead chose to turn himself in, which could be a cry for attention or maybe even help with alcohol abuse.

Alcoholized Mother Driving 5 Children Gets DWI for Wrecking Near a School

Alcoholized Mother Driving 5 Children Gets DWI for Wrecking Near a School

Last Thursday morning, alcoholized Minnesota mother- Amy Yvonne Mullin, received charges of DWI and child endangerment after wrecking her vehicle near a school. Mullin, who is 30 years of age, was carrying five children in her vehicle at the time of the accident. Officials claim that “two of the children were buckled together in the front seat.” At the scene of the accident, a legal enforcement officer administered Mullin a blood alcohol test that calculated her blood alcohol concentration level to be .175.  Evidently, Mullin violated the Minnesota alcohol limit law of .08 and was found guilty of drunk driving.

Officials stated that “Mullin caused the crash when she turned right in front of a man driving his five-year-old grandson, who was not hurt.” According to Mullin, only four children, of ages 2, 4, 5 and 9 months, were riding with her. However, while officials conducted investigative procedures,  a 7 year old girl walked over and Mullin then claimed that she had also been inside the vehicle with her.  Mullin, who was alcoholized, admitted that she only lied about the 7 year old not being in the car with her because she was not properly buckled. The 7 year old and 5 year old were both buckled together in the front seat.

Unfortunately, the 7 year old girl received an injury to her face but was immediately cared for by medical personnel. Mullin was apprehended and received charges as followed: one count for child endangerment,  one count for criminal vehicular operation, and two counts of third-degree DWI (drunk driving).

Billie Joe of Greenday Enters Rehab

Billie Joe, the lead singer of the popular punk-rock band Greenday, is headed to a rehabilitation facility for substance abuse after a public meltdown at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. On September 21, 2012, Greenday was set to perform at the festival but later found out that their set had been cut from 45 minutes to 25 to make room for another popular musician “Usher”. Apparently the band didn’t take that news too well and in the middle of their performance, Billie Joe, the lead singer, made his frustrations known when a prompter at the back of the auditorium signaled that they had 1 minute remaining.

**WARNING** The following video contains strong language

Billie Joe stopped playing and shouted out, “One minute left, one minute f**king left. You’re gonna give me f**king one minute? … I’m not f**king Justin Bieber, you mother f**kers!“. After the singer finished his rant, he grabbed his guitar and began smashing it on the stage until it broke in half. The band later released a statement through the Associated Press apologizing to anyone offended by their actions at the iHeartRadio Festival. It is still unclear what Billie Joe is receiving treatment for with initial reports stating he has been struggling with alcohol abuse. The punk singer has had alcohol problems in the past, receiving a DUI in 2003 and admitting to using drugs in the past which he says he has long since quit.

DUI Checkpoints In L.A. Prep For Holidays

DUI checkpoints have often been used throughout the country to prevent people from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and have proven to be highly successful over the years. In Los Angeles, police arrested more than 2,000 drivers during a campaign lasting 18 days and ending after the Labor Day weekend. Officer’s used a combination of saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and routine patrols during the “Avoid the 100’s” campaign and made 2,098 arrests.

During the same time last year, officers arrested 2,795 drivers, making this year’s 25% drop in arrests a good reason to believe that these anti-drinking campaigns are making a positive difference. California’s “Avoid the 100’s” campaign is made up of 100 L.A. County law enforcement agencies working together and coordinating using grant funds given by the California Office of Traffic Safety. With their last successful Labor Day campaign behind them, these agencies now look forward to the holiday season spanning from Halloween through Thanksgiving.

Nick Fairley Of Detroit Lions Avoiding DUI Trial

Nick Fairley, a defensive tackle with the Detroit Lions is requesting a pre-trial diversion program that would help him to avoid facing charges for his May 27 DUI arrest. If Fairley is approved for the program, he could avoid the possibility of facing a $600 fine, a year of probation and possible jail time. On May 27, 2012, Nick Fairley was charged with DUI and attempting to elude police in Mobile, Alabama. Apparently, Fairly was driving at around 100 mph and did not initially pull over when the officer began to pursue him.

Pre-trial diversion programs are common for first time DUI offenders and Fairley’s attorney, Sid Harrell, officially submitted paperwork requesting his client be allowed to attend the anti-DUI course. However, Fairley could still face disciplinary action by the NFL with Commissioner Roger Goodell stating he still holds the right to suspend Fairley for his pattern of conduct off the field this past year. Fairley was also charged with possession of marijuana last November 27 in Mobile, Alabama. Nick Fairley remains upbeat and has continued to work hard, telling reporters “I’m just coming in every day, working hard and not really just thinking about it” and “I’m glad to be out there on the field“.

Staten Island Drunk Driver Crashes Into Home

Staten Island local, Charles Tainor, lost control over his white four door 2001 Hyundai Elantra, and crashed into a home at the corner of Arthur Kill Road and Lee Avenue around 4:10 a.m. on Friday. Officials claim that Tainor, who is 22 years old, sped through a stop sign and flew into the home severely injuring a 40 year old mother (Lisa Roman) and her 5 year old daughter (Leonora Roman). The victims were abruptly thrown from their beds and trapped underneath the drunk driver’s Hyundai. Firefighters immediately rescued and rushed them into Staten Island University Hospital, where they now find themselves in critical but stable condition. Roman’s two other daughters, who were sleeping in a separate room, were not injured.

One of Roman’s daughters said, “Everybody was sleeping. Me and my younger sister were sleeping in one room, and my mother and my baby sister were sleeping in the other room. And we’re all sleeping and all of a sudden, hear a big crash, and that’s when we woke up to hear my mother scream ‘Help me. Get this off of me.”

Dawn Montalbo, who lives near the home, told authorities that Roman and her daughters moved into the house only about a month ago. Officials stated that in 2002 Roman’s house also got hit by a drunk driver, almost killing the previous residents. Montalbo added to this statement by saying, “It’s the second time it’s happened…people speed here all the time. He had to be speeding, to go right into the house like that.”

Drunk driver, Tainor, refused to receive medical attention  and was immediately apprehended from the scene. He was charged with a DWI and two counts of vehicular assault.

Minnesota State Trooper Arrested for DWI

Amanda Bynes Skips L.A. Court Appearance

Amanda Bynes was due in court today in Los Angeles for a hearing regarding 2 hit-and-run incidents, but chose instead to stay at a safe distance, shopping in New York. Apparently, the actress spent a couple of hours shopping and dining alone at the Cafe Habana. Fueling rumors of odd behavior were several witnesses who claimed the actress spent over 25 minutes in a bathroom, by herself, which she has done before on her outings at clothing stores. Her attorney, Richard Hutton, entered a not-guilty plea on Bynes’ behalf and the case is due back in court on October 19, 2012.

Amanda Bynes is being accused by prosecutors of fleeing the scene after two separate hit-and-run accidents without exchanging insurance information. Bynes has also been accused of drunk driving when she grazed a sheriffs patrol vehicle. Another troubled star, Lindsay Lohan, took to her Twitter account and publicly vented her frustration at the fact that she was treated more harshly during legal troubles. Now, Lohan’s mom, Dina is giving free advice to Amanda Bynes’ parents saying, “Just be around“. While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Dina Lohan said, “You know, I’m a mother, and I feel that that’s for her mother to speak about, and not me, because people have spoken for my child and myself, so I really feel that’s for her parents to discuss and Amanda herself“.

Principal James McGonigle Arrested For DUI In P.A.

Principal James McGonigle Arrested For DUI In P.A.

James McGonigle, the Principal at Blue Mountain Middle School was arrested for 2 counts of DUI as well as another count of careless driving in Berks County, Pennsylvania on August 30, 2012. According to the police report, McGonigle was speeding in his Jeep Commander, going 52 mph in a 40 mph zone when he almost hit an officer in an unmarked vehicle. That officer, Robert Wood, pulled McGonigle over and asked him to complete a breathalyzer test as well as several field sobriety tests, which McGonigle failed. After being arrested, McGonigle was taken to the county jail where he had his blood alcohol content(BAC) level tested, which was .2%, more than double the legal limit of .08%.

James McGonigle has waived his right to a preliminary hearing and applied instead for the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program. An application toward the ARD program would mean that Principal McGonigle would not be pleading innocent or guilty, nor would he face conviction in a DUI trial. Instead, the program offers first time offenders an opportunity to avoid mandatory suspension of driver’s license as well as mandatory jail time and upon completion of the program, he could have his record expunged. However, one of the programs requirements is that the first time offender had a BAC level between .08% and .099%, while McGonigle’s was actually .2% at the time of his arrest. Principal McGonigle has also been the subject of legal issues before, when earlier this year he suspended a student for 10 days regarding a Myspace profile she created depicting him as a pedophile.
