Drunk driver, Leigh Brennan, crashed his Volvo car into the Three Elms pub in Brixham, Devon at a speed of 60 mph. Sources stated that Brennan, who is 45 years old,  had “already injured two others after crashing into a Mini before speeding off from the scene and in his Volvo estate car.” Moments before the crash, there was a group of customers smoking outside the pub’s door. It is a miracle that none of them were injured.

When Brennan crashed into the pub, he left the landlord- Kevin O’Neill- “seriously injured under a pile of rubble.” Devon rescuers faced great difficulty rescuing O’Neill from the debris. It was discovered that O’Neill’s critical injuries consisted of a crushed pelvis, broken ribs, and various spinal injuries. “He spent three days in intensive care and required three operations.” 

Brennan struggled to get out of the car and aggravated police officials. Sources claimed that he refused to take a BAC test along with any field sobriety tests. However, witnesses were able to affirm his drunkenness. Brennan was imprisoned for twelve months and lost his privilege to operate a vehicle for two years. Police officials released the footage of the accident to alert drivers about the consequences of driving drunk.

Bradley Dean Almy, 34, of Marietta, Georgia, was shot and killed by Sgt. Jason Dove after driving erratically and nearly striking Officer Tim Fecht with his vehicle. On Wednesday night, Bradley had allegedly plowed into several cars at a gas station and on Ashford Dunwoody Road. Sources are reporting that an officer tried to stop Almy and a chase began. Almy did not stop his vehicle and that is when Sgt. Jason Dove fired a shot at Almy, and they say Almy continued to run into cars, and continued onto Perimeter Center East but then ran into a light pole, when his car finally stopped.

Almy was given first aid and he was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, but he later died.

Cobb Sheriff’s Office’s reports show that Almy had been arrested twice before for drunk driving. At the time of his death, Almy was scheduled to appear just a week later for a DUI charge from an arrest in June 2012. There was another arrest in 2007, in which Almy was arrested for DUI.

Sgt. Jason Dove is currently on paid administrative leave.

Baylee Dion, a seven month old baby, was killed in a car crash this past Tuesday. The accident, which occurred on Route 20 on the Cattaraugus Reservation in New York, was caused by a drunk driver- Danielle Kellogg.

Sources from the Erie County Sheriff’s office stated that Kellogg, who is only 24 years old, is now facing various charges accounting for DWI and Vehicular Manslaughter. She was incriminated on Tuesday evening after being released from the hospital for minor injuries. Officials determined that it could take a little more than a week before Kellogg’s blood alcohol test results are known. It was discovered by the sheriff’s office that this was not the first time that Kellogg had violated the law. Several attorneys told Eyewitness News that “Kellogg plead guilty to Driving While Ability Impaired in Chautauqua County back in November of 2009.” 

As of today, Kellogg remains in jail. Her bail bond was set at $20,000, and she was summoned to appear on court this coming Friday. Steve Boyd, who is the Dion’s family attorney, claimed that the family is “hurting in a really unspeakable way from this horrible tragedy…It’s just devastating to think there are people that would do that…what the hell was she thinking? She was that drunk at 9:00 in the morning?”

Michael Nolan, a repeat DWI offender, was arrested shortly after a hearing regarding a prior DWI arrest on November 27, 2012. Nolan appeared at the Nassau County Court in Mineola, New York when court officers and staffers detected an odor of alcohol on him. After court officials noticed that Nolan smelled like alcohol and was unsteady on his feet, the DA requested that an officer follow him after driving away from the courthouse. Nolan was then pulled over just a few feet from the courthouse and arrested him on another DWI charge. Nolan was taken to the nearby police headquarters and processed, however, his blood alcohol content (BAC) level was not released.

Before getting in his car and leaving the courthouse, Nolan was at a hearing for a prior DWI offense that occurred earlier this year in August. When he pulled over in August, police found his BAC to be .28%, which is more than 3 times the legal limit. Nolan’s lawyer said that it was unfair for his client to be targeted by the DA. His lawyer made a statement saying, “This sounds to me like it was some kind of entrapment… to follow him out to his car like that“. When Nolan was arrested in August, police found a half empty bottle of Hennessy in his vehicle after they caught him driving unusually slow around Freeport. Nolan’s lawyer insists Nolan is innocent and said, “He wasn’t even driving the car that day, I expect him to be exonerated“.

Tyler Alred, a teen who was found guilty of first degree manslaughter after being involved in a DUI crash was been sentenced to 10 years of church attendance on November 13, 2012. Alred, 17, was charged as a youthful offender after crashing his truck on December 3, 2011. John Luke Dum, 16, was the passenger in Alred’s truck and was ejected from the vehicle and killed as a result of the crash. According to police, Alred had a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of .006% and while the legal limit is .08%, Alred still received a DUI for being under the legal drinking age.

According to the Muskogee Phoenix newspaper, Alred made a statement to the victim’s family and friends after being sentenced. In his statement, Alred said, “I know my words cannot bring him back, I did not want to do what I did. I want to change my life. I have changed my life“. Members of the Dum family also read statements expressing their grief as well as hope that Alred would learn from the experience. John’s sister Caitlin said, “We don’t need to see two lives wasted for a mistake“. Alred was given a 10 year deferred sentence by Judge Norman and must comply with a list of conditions if he wants to avoid jail time. Alred must graduate from high school, submit drug, alcohol and nicotine tests for a year, attend victim impact panels, wear an alcohol bracelet, graduate from welding school and attend church for 10 years.

Two men in Louisiana have been arrested for DWI hit-and-run for driving the same vehicle within a few minutes of each other. On Thanksgiving evening, Stephen Pierce Flint, 30, drove his Jeep into the side of the Red Barn Pub in Mandeville, which caused minor damage to the structure.

Police say that after the minor accident, his friend Donahue Miller, 21, jumped from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat and took control of the vehicle. Witnesses reported to police that Miller was driving when the Jeep left the scene of the crash. The Jeep was tracked down a few minutes later, only a few blocks away at the Barley Oak, another nearby pub.

Miller’s blood alcohol content (BAC) registered at .271%, more than three times the legal limit. Miller was charged with hit-and-run, first offense DWI, and simple criminal damage. His co-driver, Flint, was charged with hit-and-run, 5th offense DWI, and “unlawful refusal to the intoxilyzer test.”
