Drunk Drug Counselor Hits Man And Drives For 2 Miles

sherri wilkinsSherri Wilkins, a 51 year-old substance abuse counselor in Torrance, California was arrested for DUI on November 24, 2012. According to police, Wilkins struck Phillip Moreno, 35, with her Mitsubishi Eclipse while he was crossing a street late Saturday night, causing Moreno to roll over the cars hood before being embedded in the windshield. In a panic, Wilkins continued to drive for more than 2 miles with Moreno still on her vehicle before being stopped by police.

When police tested Wilkins blood alcohol content (BAC) level, they found that she was more than double the legal limit, which is .08%. Moreno was still alive when police stopped Wilkins but was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Wilkins had been working as a chemical dependency counselor at the Twin Town Treatment Center but according to the company’s president, David Lisonbee, she had not been to work in the days leading up to the accident. Wilkins was charged with DUI, manslaughter as well as hit and run. Wilkins is being held on a $100,000 bond while awaiting her arraignment.
