Drunk Driver Crashes Eight Times in One Mile

Drunk Driver Crashes Eight Times Before Stopping

A man in Connecticut was so intoxicated that he crashed his car eight times in one mile before finally slamming into a pole on Tuesday night. Jack Jablonski, 48, of Plymouth, has been charged with DUI and eight separate counts of failure to drive right and seven counts of evading responsibility. After posting a $5,000 bond he was released from jail.

The string of accidents began around 7pm. Police received a phone call from a resident who reported a car accident. An officer was dispatched to the scene only to find Jablonski, alone, and in a damaged car wrapped around a utility pole. He was stuck so far into the pole that he could not back his vehicle out of it.

Capt. Brian Mullins reported that Jablonski had slurred speech and reeked of alcohol. Police reported that Jablonksi slammed into a pair of mailboxes, a speed limit sign, and a utility pole. He continued driving, and then crashed into another speed limit sign, and turned left onto West Main Street, and then struck two parked cars. He turned his vehicle around and continued driving but he crashed into another pole, where his car became stuck. Jablonski was inebriated beyond the point of being able to explain to police which path he had taken. He declined a Breathalyzer on the scene, and was arrested for drunk driving.

North Carolina Commissioner Goes to Court for DWI

North Carolina Commissioner Goes to Court for DWI

WWAY News Channel 3 stated that a North Carolina commissioner from New Hanover County, Brian Berger, was arrested last month for a DWI. As a result, Berger is scheduled to appear in court this Wednesday. It was determined that police officials from the town of Wilmington “arrested Berger in downtown Wilmington on December 18 around 2 a.m. after they say he made an abrupt left turn in the 200 Block of Market Street.”

Police officials administered Berger a blood alcohol content test, which revealed that the alcohol level in his system was at .08. The results proved that Berger was DWI and that his blood alcohol level was well above the North Carolina legal limit.  Berger told WWAY News Channel 3 that “he was drinking the night of the arrest, but believes that a combination of prescription drugs made him appear more intoxicated.” In addition, he also stated that he will fight the charges made against him.

WDRB News@4 reported that a DUI offender in Louisville, Kentucky attempted to get back her freedom by offering sexual favors to a police officer. It was determined through the Louisville police report that the suspect, Amanda M. Dudek, “was driving near the corner of Dixie Highway and Ashby Lane, just before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when she smashed into the back of another vehicle, then veered off the road and hit the curb.”

Driver Whose Car Hung Precariously Over 30-foot Drop is Rescued and then Charged with DUI

A one-vehicle crash ended with the driver being rescued, then being cited for DUI. Lowell Abrams, a 50-year-old man from Cardington, crashed into a guardrail and became stuck over a 30-foot catch basin at 12:30a.m. His vehicle hit the guardrail, got wrapped in a chain-link fence, and then overturned, landing upside down on top of a concrete catch basin. On one side, there was a 30-foot drop into the basin, and on the other side, there was an 8-foot drop. Abrams was trapped in his vehicle, and the car’s hood was resting on the Bowman St. embankment, and the trunk was resting on the opposite side.

Luckily, firefighters were flagged down by a passing tow truck, and they were able to stabilize the car with cables and winches. With two 18-foot ladders, the firefighters were able to reach Abrams. They pulled him out of the passenger window, and overall the rescue operation took about 30 minutes. Abrams was transported to Mansfield Hospital, where he was arrested for drunk driving. UFC Fighter Jon Jones “Wiser” After DWI Arrest

UFC Fighter Jon Jones “Wiser” After DWI Arrest

jon jonesUFC fighter Jon Jones has said that his arrest for DWI back in May 2012 has made him a “wiser” man, among other things. On May 19, 2012, Jones was involved in a single vehicle accident after crashing his 2012 Bentley into a telephone pole around 5 am in Binghamton, New York. Jones is said to have suffered only minor injuries and was arrested for DWI. Jones remained relatively quiet about the incident, only tweeting “God is good,” shortly after the accident. Now, Jones has opened up a little more about the accident and its profound effect on his life.

The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion said that he felt like he’s grown from the experience and is “wiser, stronger, smarter because of all that stuff.” Jones has seen his share of ups and downs during his career in the UFC, ranging from a cancelled UFC event as well as another vehicular accident in 2011 that resulted in a woman driving the other vehicle being carried away in a stretcher. It would appear to Jones’ fans that he has not only learned first hand the serious consequences of driving drunk, but is grateful to have not lost the chance to continue his successful career in the UFC. Jon Jones concluded by saying, “I’m alive to see 2013 and I’m blessed and I’m grateful.”

Man who Jumped into Creek to Escape DUI Arrest is Found

Young Man Who Jumped into Waterway to Avoid DUI Arrest is Found Dead

A 23-year-old college student who jumped into a creek to avoid a possible DUI arrest was found dead in the waterway, authorities reported on Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Department said the body of Anthony Donelson was found Monday evening, close to the spot where he jumped into the creek on Dec. 24 at 12:30a.m.

On the night that Donelson jumped into the creek, he had been stopped by Ross police officers who had pulled him over on suspicion of drunk driving. Donelson handed his license to the officers and at some point jumped over a fence, leaped into the creek, and started swimming away. He disappeared from sight, and for the next two days law enforcement and firefighters searched the area with no success.

Donelson’s family members had offered a $5,000 reward to help find him. Donelson had been arrested on suspicion of public intoxication previously and also had a DUI conviction, according to the Marin Independent Journal.

His long-time friend Alex Gildroy told the Marin IJ that “he was a really good guy” and “everyone loved him.” In November 2012, prosecutors filed a petition to revoke his probation in two previous cases-one a DUI conviction, and the other a domestic battery conviction-after he was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.

Rhode Island Attorney Arrested for DUI Twice in Less Than One Year

Rhode Island DUI Attorney Arrested for DUI

A Rhode Island DUI lawyer has been arrested for drunk driving for the second time in less than a year. The attorney crashed her SUV into a parked car and then tried to drive away. The owner of the vehicle said the car was hit from behind and the entire incident had been caught on surveillance from a nearby service station.

The DUI attorney, Layne Savage, has been charged with DUI and refusal to provide a breath sample. The crash has left the owner of the damaged vehicle without personal transportation. He said, “I parked the car and left. And my surprise, I’m looking at my phone and my friend sends me a picture. And I said what? That’s my car? I call and he says you have to come here, your car’s all messed up.”

The man said without his vehicle, he doesn’t know how he will get to work. “A lot of damage, look at the back the front…it’s done right now I need a car. I don’t have a car to go to work. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

In March, Savage was found guilty of alcohol possession while driving and guilty of refusing a breathalyzer. Her license was suspended for nine months, however she was allowed to drive during her appeal. She will be in court on her new charges on Thursday.

Minnesota DWI Campaign Yields More Than 2,000 Arrests

Minnesota DWI Campaign Yields More Than 2,000 Arrests

drive soberA Minnesota DWI Campaign in December 2012 resulted in more than 2,000 DWI arrests according to public safety officials. According to reports, law enforcement agencies in Minnesota arrested 2,551 drivers as part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” DWI campaign. While the legal limit in Minnesota is .08%, reports claim that the highest blood alcohol content (BAC) level found in drivers was .47%.

In December of 2011, a similar DWI campaign resulted in 2,600 Minnesota DWI arrests. Throughout the U.S., similar DWI campaigns have become popular and very successful at preventing the amount of fatal crashes related to drunk driving. Through various funding, such as grants provided by the Department of Education, states all over the country are able to increase the amount of officers on patrol during the busy holiday season. Most states achieve these results by adding hundreds of holiday patrol units and DWI checkpoints.
