Arkansas DWI Offender Freed by Huckabee Pleads Guilty to New Charge

Earlier this week Eugene Fields plead guilty in Fort Smith District Court to drunk driving in Arkansas. Fields was the center of controversy after a 2003 Arkansas DWI sentence was commuted by then-Governor, and current Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee.

Fields was sentenced to six years in jail in 2003 after being found guilty of a fourth-offense DWI in Arkansas. He began the clemency application process and was waiting for a parole date when Gov. Huckabee commuted his sentence, making Fields immediately eligible for release. Citing jail overcrowding, the long-time Republican Party donor was freed despite having served only one year of his sentence.

A director for Mothers Against Drunk Driving stated that Fields is

Floyd Brown, of Port St. Lucie, was driving a bus on a charter trip of middle school students to Disney World in April 2006 when passengers suspected he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Someone found two beer bottles on the bus and trip chaperons thought Brown appeared sleepy. During a stop at a Florida Turnpike rest area, the adults called the Florida State Patrol who immediately investigated.

Though Brown tried to tell the officers that physical difficulties made it impossible for him to perform them, he submitted to and failed field sobriety tests. The troopers also reportedly detected alcohol on Brown

Washington DUI News: Judge Throws Out Breath Tests in Washington DUI Cases

Three King County Washington District Court judges have ruled that breath tests should not be used as evidence in drunk driving cases because of problems at the Washington State Patrol’s toxicology lab. The finding directly affects eight plaintiffs; though more than one hundred cases have been on hold waiting for the outcome of the case. It is also probable that thousands of previously resolved cases will be re-opened at the request of Washington DUI defense lawyers.

Phoenix DUI News: Giants football player arrested for extreme Arizona DUI

Adrian Awasom was arrested by the Arizona State Police for suspicion of drunk driving after being stopped at 3:00 am Friday on Interstate 10 in Phoenix. Though the results of blood tests are still pending, the Arizona Department of Public Safety has said the NFL player has been charged with extreme DUI, which indicates an elevated blood alcohol content.

The backup defensive end for the New York Giants is in Phoenix for the Super Bowl XLII. He arrived Thursday with the team, though he has been on injured reserve since September. In his third pro season Awasom has played a limited role on the team, including practice squad and special teams duty. He injured his neck in the second game of the 2007 season against the Green Bay Packers.

A spokesman for the Giants has said the team is aware of the situation and that Awasom has been sent home.
