Florida DUI Arrest Turns Into Nude Rampage

The Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office was involved in an odd impaired driving arrest in September when a man went into a nude rage. Christopher Nicholas Bos crashed his 2002 GMC sport utility vehicle into a 2005 Lexus LS450. He then attempted to drive off, crashing into a nearby residential and golf development entrance gate. A witness told deputies that Bos ran off, naked, with his dog.

Deputies arrived on the scene about 6:30 pm, and Bos’ father let them into his son’s home. The younger Bos was found lying on his bed, incoherent and emotional, with blood smeared on his body and bed sheets. When an EMS team arrived, Bos resisted, kicking until a deputy Tased him. He then spit on an officer while being transported to a local medical center.

Bos, 27, was initially charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. The state’s attorney general’s office recently added misdemeanor Florida DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Bos remains in the Okaloosa County Jail.

Former NFL Player Arrested for 6th DUI

Reggie Rogers was a stand-out defensive lineman and basketball player at the University of Washington and was a first round NFL draft pick with great expectations in 1987. Unfortunately, things did not progress as hoped. Rogers’ life hit a new low last Tuesday when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Tacoma Washington. It was his sixth DUI offense.

The year after Rogers was drafted by the Detroit Lions, he ran a stop sign in Pontiac, Michigan and crashed into another vehicle, killing the three teenage occupants. His blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit for intoxication. Rogers served a one year prison sentence for negligent homicide and upon his release played for the Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His failed to achieve success however and he quit the NFL after the 1992 season. He is considered one of professional football’s biggest draft pick busts.

Rogers was arraigned on charges of WA DUI and driving without a license last Friday. There is no indication at this time of the extent of penalties the prosecution will seek. Before his latest arrest for DUI in Washington, Rogers was arrested on October 17 and again on November 26 of 2008. One involved a crash on Interstate 5. In the other he tried to flee the scene and then claimed he was not drunk but had suffered a seizure. Rogers was sentenced to two years in prison by a King County District Court judge for those drunk driving offenses.

Florida Highway Patrol officers stopped a white 2008 Mercedes for erratic driving on the Florida Turnpike in Port St. Lucie. The vehicle was observed traveling off the edge of the road and back into a lane several times. The driver, former teen idol and Partridge Family actor David Cassidy, admitted to having a glass of wine with lunch followed by a prescription painkiller. He failed to mention, however, the half empty bottle of bourbon the trooper saw in the back seat.

Cassidy’s blood alcohol content measured 0.139% and 0.141% during breath tests. He was booked for driving under the influence in Florida, failure to maintain a lane and having an open container. He was later released on $350 bond.

Cassidy, 60, is best known for his role on the Partridge Family during the 70s. He recorded several albums and singles, including the hits ‘C’mon Get Happy’ and ‘I Think I Love You’.

Halloween Patrols to Target Drunk Drivers

Halloween has become more than trick-or-treating child’s play. It now generates some of the largest numbers of adult parties of any event of the year. And like St. Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Eve, alcohol plays a role, making it statistically one of the largest holidays involving impaired or drunk driving accidents.

In response, law enforcement will be conducting special patrols and sobriety checkpoints in search of those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It should be noted that any impairment, whether from alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription medicine or any combination, can lead to an arrest for DUI or DWI.

An arrest for drunk driving or impaired driving can result in loss of driver’s license, courts fees, fines, jail, community service, supervised probation, required enrollment in a substance abuse program, loss of auto insurance, and, in many states, the mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device.

Those planning to drink alcohol during a Halloween party should plan ahead for safety. Use of a designated driver, safe ride home, taxi or public transportation is encouraged.
