Deputy Brian M. Post arrived for work at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department around 8:00 am, and shortly after a patrol sergeant suspected he might be intoxicated. He was suspended and taken home.
A preliminary investigation determined that Post had driven to work in his patrol car, so the evidence was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office and Post was charged with drunk driving in Washington.
No final action has been determined following the internal investigation though, in addition to DUI, Post faces charges of reporting to duty while intoxicated, violating sheriff’s department rules of conduct, bringing discredit to the sheriff’s office and disobeying sheriff’s office rules. Post, 45 could be fired for the incident. He is a seven-and-a-half-year veteran with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that, he was employed by the Lynwood Police Department.

Colorado State law enforcement agencies declared a crackdown of drunk driving over the Halloween weekend. Highway message boards flashed warnings of the anti-DUI campaign. The Georgia State Patrol has received a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to fund two DUI related programs. Both Georgia DUI programs were started in 2004, and the new funding assures to their continuation in the coming year.

Nighthawk patrols focus on DUI enforcement in Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Clayton Counties in the Atlanta metro area. The state troopers have arrested 679 motorists for drunk driving in Georgia so far in 2008. Last year the team made a total of 1,054 arrests for drunk driving. The Nighthawks Task Force has been recognized internationally as the best DUI enforcement initiative in North America.

The ALS program prepares troopers for license suspension hearings. Under Georgia DUI law the state may seek to administratively suspend a motorist’s driver’s license following an arrest for DUI. The motorist is afforded the opportunity to challenge the suspension by requesting an Administrative License Suspension hearing. The Georgia State Patrol program provides training, legal assistance and even legal representation to officers for the hearing. Statistics indicate that one third of traffic fatalities in Georgia can be attributed to alcohol impairment. The objective of the GSP Nighthawk and ALS programs is to reduce that figure.

Over the last year the Colorado State Patrol has been implementing a new data plotting technology that helps them identify hot-spots of DUI related accidents. The information is used to help them to better target their drunk driving patrols.

The CSP troop in Fort Collins is the first to use the technology which utilizes color coded pins to indicate the locations and types of accidents over a set period of time. In addition to patrolling major highways, the focus has included roads near liquor stores and recreation areas. While the troop has changed its patrol schedules and targets, a spokesperson said that it is the first year of the system’s use so its effectiveness is not yet known.

The mapping technology is being shared with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, which says the collaboration has helped them better enforce the law and arrest motorists suspected of drunk driving in Colorado.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a month long crackdown on motorists driving drunk in New York. The increased NY DWI patrols were initiated after there were two accidents involving alcohol with fatalities on a single September day.

The arrests for drunk driving in Niagara County during October totaled 35. Three involved felony DWI charges meaning that the motorists had previous drunk driving convictions in the last ten years. Nine arrests were made by sheriff

Jerry Cash, former CEO of the energy company Quest was arrested in suburban Oklahoma City for drunk driving. He left the scene of a crash and caused four more accidents before being stopped.

Cash reportedly was involved in an accident near NW 63 and N. Western around 1:00 pm Sunday. While leaving the scene he collided with a second vehicle. The second crash was witnessed by a Nichols Hills officer who pursued Cash. Cash crashed into three more vehicles at the intersection of NW 63 and N. Grand Boulevard, and was finally apprehended.

Cash was booked at the Oklahoma County jail on charges of drunk driving in Oklahoma, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to obey a traffic control device. He was released after posting a $3,500 bond.

Cash, 46, is the former CEO and Chairman of three Quest business entities, Quest Resource Corp., Quest Energy Partners and Quest Midstream Partners. He resigned last August during an investigation of transfers of $10 million to other Cash controlled entities.

Lindsay Lohan says that her time in alcohol rehabilitation has helped her turn her life around. She said, “I’m thankful for what I can take out of it. Now I feel clear.”

Aaron Simpson, a detention deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest for drunk driving in Florida.

Simpson was stopped at an intersection around 8:45 pm after being observed weaving in and out of his lane. At one point he reportedly almost drove the arresting officer off the road.

Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Hermes Franca was arrested for drunk driving in Florida early Thursday morning. Franca was booked at the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office around 2:30 am. He was released shortly after 10:00 am. The charges include first offense Florida DUI.
