Judge Dismisses Rhode Island DUI Charge

A Rhode Island Superior Court judge dismissed charges of driving under the influence in Rhode Island against a Massachusetts man over the improper administration of field sobriety tests. Justice Melanie Thunberg found the defendant, James Scalisi, not guilty because the application of the tests deviated from outlined standards.

Scalisi was involved in a two vehicle accident July 20, 2007 where no one was injured. The investigating officer detected alcohol and thought Scalisi was slurring his words, and initiated three field sobriety tests. According to guidelines, before an officer can administer such tests, a determination must be made as to whether the subject has any medical conditions that might impact the results. The evidence entered into trial in Judge Thunberg

Barron Hilton Sued Over His California DUI

A gas station employee who says Barron Hilton hit him while the hotel heir was driving under the influence has filed suit for his injuries. Fernando Mendoza Tellez is asking for unspecified damages from the CA DUI incident.

Barron, the younger brother of Paris Hilton, sideswiped a truck with his Mercedes on Pacific Coast Highway on the morning of February 12, 2008. Hilton pulled into a Union 76 gas station in Malibu while the other driver called police. Barron Hilton got out of his car and sat on a bus-stop bench, but not before bumping Tellez. Witnesses confirm that Tellez was struck in the leg.

Hilton, now 19, pled no contest to charges of California drunk driving last April and was sentenced to three years probation, fined $2000, required to work at a local morgue and had his driver’s license suspended for one year.
