Oklahoma Man Falls Down Drunk in Front of Judge

A Bartlesville man being arraigned on charges of driving under the influence in Oklahoma allegedly fell down drunk in front of a judge. Mark Watson was arrested for drunk driving around 2:30 am Sunday morning after being involved in a hit and run accident. He had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. When asked about the accident, Watson reportedly told officers, “I’m (expletive) drunk, I was driving but I did not run the stop sign. That (expletive) hit me.” After refusing to submit to a field sobriety test, he continued with his tirade, saying, “I ain’t taking no (expletive) test. I’m (expletive) drunk. I’m blind anyways and I can’t drive.” He then kicked the arresting officer.

When Watson appeared in court Monday morning, he was seated in a jury box when he fell and struck his head. Sheriff’s deputies administered a breath test and field sobriety tests and determined he was drunk. The judge doubled Watson’s bond to $15,000 and restricted him from consuming alcohol or being in places that serve alcohol.

Watson, 41, was originally charged with Oklahoma DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended driver’s license and assault on a police officer. The DA’s office is considering public intoxication charges following the arraignment incident. Watson is due back in Washington County court on January 14, 2011.

Drunk Elephants Go on Rampage in India

It appears the impact of consuming alcohol goes beyond humans. In northeastern India, elephants broke into earthenware vessels containing a fermented rice based drink made by remote villagers, and proceeded to get drunk. Over a four day rampage, a herd of 70 elephants killed three people and destroyed 60 homes in several villages in the states of Orissa and West Bengal.

The villagers had stockpiled the alcoholic beverage for an upcoming festival, and the elephants found it. The interaction between man and beast has become more frequent as villagers encroach on traditional elephant grazing grounds. The pachyderms have become semi-urbanized, no longer avoiding contact with humans and actively seeking out tastier foods found in villages.

During the latest incident, the elephants staggered around while intoxicated, causing mayhem and damage. They were found later sleeping off their hangovers. Elephants kill about 400 people are killed each year in India and destroy 2.5 million acres of farmland. Approximately 100 elephants are killed.

A University of Colorado student was arrested for riding a bike under the influence around 11:30 Saturday night after an unsteady ride through Boulder. Nineteen year old Patricia Forget rode her mountain bike through a red light at a major intersection and struck a car. Fortunately the driver saw Forget coming and remained stationery.
