Veteran Anchor Sam Donaldson Arrested For DUI

sam donaldsonVeteran political correspondent and ABC news anchor Sam Donaldson was arrested for DUI in Delaware on December 1, 2012. According to police, Donaldson, 78, was pulled over after police saw him weaving onto the shoulder of a road. When police began questioning Donaldson, they detected an odor of alcohol on the veteran newsman’s breath and conducted a field sobriety test. Apparently, Donaldson failed the sobriety test definitively.

After failing the sobriety test, police arrested Donaldson and took him into custody at a nearby police station, where he was booked and released. The respected newsman was released to an adult pending a court appearance and is said to have been very cooperative during the process. After joining ABC news in 1967, Sam Donaldson went on to become the network’s Chief White House Correspondent from 1977 to 1989. In 1998, he received the Broadcaster of the Year award from the National Press Foundation.
