U of Washington Tight End Austin Seferian Jenkins Charged With DUI

austin jenkinsAustin Seferian Jenkins, a tight end with the University of Washington, was arrested and charged with DUI on March 9, 2013 in Seattle, Washington. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm in the University District with Jenkins being one of several passengers in the vehicle when it was pulled over. It is unclear at the moment if Jenkins was driving or if officer’s conducted any field sobriety tests. University of Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian commented on the incident, saying, “We are aware of an incident that occurred Saturday evening involving Austin Seferian-Jenkins. We are taking the matter very seriously“.

Austin Seferian Jenkins was a finalist for the John Mackey Award as a true sophomore in 2011 and has already holds several records as tight end including yards, touchdowns and catches. Head Coach Sarkisian also said “Austin made decisions that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes who represent the University of Washington. He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies. We will continue to support Austin throughout this process, while also holding him accountable and responsible for his actions“. Many of Jenkins fans wonder if the incident will affect his future prospects with the NFL since many regard him as a definite early first round pick in the 2014 draft.
