Toddler Gets Killed By Drunk Driver

New York’s WABC-TV reported that a drunk driver killed a 3 year old toddler in Queens this past Friday night. The toddler, Olvin Figueroa, was walking home from the market with his mother, Carina Osorrio, when  he was hit and killed by an alleged drunk driver at the intersection of Junction and Northern Boulevards. Osorrio, 34 years old, stated that the driver stopped about a block away then came running back to help.

The drunk driver, Gilbert Echeverria, claimed that he did not see the child. He helped Osorrio put the child’s body into his SUV and took him to the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, Figueroa was pronounced dead at the hospital. Osorrio, heartbroken, stated that the 3-year-old was very active but a welcomed handful to the family. It was determined that the family, who left Honduras to have a better life, has only been in the United States for six months. Neighbors and friends of the family have collected donations to send Figueroa’s body back to Honduras for funeral arrangements. Drunk driver, Echeverria, was charged with DWI, vehicular manslaughter, and criminally negligent homicide.
