Train in Oregon – Robert Gillespie, of Eugene, was charged with Oregon DUI after running into the side of a Union Pacific freight train. Gillespie was trying to read a text message to his mobile phone around 2 in the morning when the accident occurred. Despite being trapped in his vehicle, Gillespie’s injuries were not life threatening.

Police cruiser in New York – Around 1:45 am Robert Hoar, of Flower Hill, crashed his 1998 Lincoln into the back of a marked Nassau County police cruiser, and then drove away. The police officer in the cruiser was uninjured. Other officers from a nearby precinct stopped Hoar nearly a mile away. After failing a field sobriety test, Hoar was charged with drunk driving, among other things.

A patrol car in Florida – A Flagler County Sheriff’s Department SUV was rear-ended while stopped at a red light. The motorist, 29 year-old Tony Garren, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and then arrested for Florida DUI. The police officer also suffered minor injuries.

Another patrol car in Florida – Terry Gene Hughes, of Melbourne, crashed into the back of an off-duty police officer’s car on a Sunday afternoon. He then fled the scene and was stopped by another officer nearby. Hughes, 39, was found to have an open container and a young child in his car. He fought with officers and kicked at the door of a patrol car during his arrest. Hughes was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with injuries, DUI with property damage, refusing to take a breath test, criminal mischief, accident involving damage to a vehicle and or property and child abuse.
