Teen Kills 4 People in DWI Accident

WFAA reported that Ethan Couch, a 16 year old, is being prosecuted for DWI and killing 4 people. The source stated that on June 15, Couch was driving a pickup truck between 68 and 70 miles an hour in a 40 mph zone when he struck a sport utility vehicle that was parked on the side of the road with a flat tire.
This accident managed to kill Brian Jennings, a youth pastor; Hollie and Shelby Boyles, mother and daughter; and Breanna Mitchell, a 24 year old. It was noted that all of these individuals had stopped to help Couch and were outside of the vehicle when they died.  In addition to this, 9 other victims were hurt.

Investigators determined that Couch’s blood alcohol content had been 0.24, which is three times the Texas legal limit. Although, it’s illegal for anyone under 21 to drive with any amount of alcohol in their system. This past Wednesday, Couch went to juvenile court and a judge gave him permission to stay with his parents as long as he wore an ankle bracelet monitoring before the start of trial. He will be prosecuted for four counts of intoxication manslaughter and if found guilty could receive up to 20 years in jail. It was noted that this was not the first time that he had a problem with the law because of alcohol. In February, he received alcohol citations for carrying a can of beer and a bottle of vodka.

  1. Rachel Eimutis says

I am writing because I am in awe of the judge who pronounced a sentence to Ethan Couch. Talk about being contradictory…first she says he has never had to follow boundaries. So then she turns around and gives a sentence of 10 years probation and some form of therapy. And just where are the boundaries here? A slap on the hand for taking the lives of four human beings, leaving their families and friends to grieve. I cannot believe this sentence. So now we are truly saying that the rich can truly get away with murder. I wonder how much money lined the pocket of the judge for giving such a lenient sentence for such a horrible time. So now Ethan can say to himself, “hey, I can even get away with murder.” Good example to give other teens who are out there thinking they can get away with anything, especially if their parents are rich. Affluenza? Are you kidding me? In that case put the parents in jail as well. But, don’t give the kid the opportunity to do this again in the future. I wonder if the judge would have given the same sentence if one of the deceased was part of her family. My prayers go out to all of those who lost some very special in their lives.

Please, please everyone. Write to let people know that we will no longer tolerate this double standard between what happens to poor people and what doesn’t happen to rich people.

  2. I agree totally with the Dec 13th reply. The Judge should be removed! Anyone that kills with a deadly weapon, under the influence, gets 20 years min. Of course this has not happen before, so who is the Judge to the offender? The judge should be barred from serving the community, this is not Justice!!!!!!!
