The founder of Ron Jon Surf Shops was arrested for driving under the influence in Florida Thursday afternoon after being spotted weaving and nearly hitting another vehicle while in his pick-up truck on Merritt Island. According to the arrest report, Ron DiMenna had trouble walking and slurred his speech, and when officers searched the vehicle they found a half full 20-oz can of the high alcohol/energy drink Four Loko. DiMenna refused to submit to a breath or blood test to check his BAC.
DiMenna was booked at the Brevard County Detention Center on suspicion of Florida DUI. He was later released after posting $5,500 bond. DiMenna has two previous arrests for DUI. In 2005 he pled guilty to reckless driving, and in 2007 he was convicted of drunk driving in Florida and had his driver’s license suspended for 6 months. In 1994 DiMenna was pardoned by the New Jersey governor for 1970’s convictions for drug possession.
The 73-year old DiMenna started the iconic surf shop in New Jersey in 1959.
