School Nurse Arrested For DUI

1011now reported that in Fairbury, Nebraska,  a school nurse was arrested for DUI in a van with children.  The school nurse, Karrie Jo York, is an employee of the Fairbury School District. On Friday, York was stopped by a legal officer who spotted her in a white van traveling eastbound on 14th Street passing the H Street intersection traveling 46 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. York was chased for a couple of minutes by the police until she crashed into a garage in an alley.

One of the police officers stated that he could detect the strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath. York was administered a field sobriety test, which determined that her alcohol level was .181, and was arrested for DUI. According to the news story, York resisted arrest by refusing to be placed in handcuffs and then trying to climb down the patrol’s window. She was taken to prison and received charges for DUI, reckless driving, child abuse, and violating traffic laws. Fairbury School’s Superintendent Fred Helmink said York is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation and is not working.
