Repeat DWI Offender Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison

joel abilaRepeat DWI offender Joel Gochicoa Abila was sentenced to 20 years in prison on October 29, 2013 after being convicted for his third felony DWI. This is Abila’s 5th DWI conviction since the early 1990’s. In addition to receiving the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, repeat DWI offender Abila was fined $7,500. In 2002, Gochicoa was convicted of his 3rd DWI and given probation, however, he was arrested again in 2004 for DWI and sentenced to 4 years in prison.

The repeat DWI offender was arrested for his most recent DWI on May 19, 2013 after damaging his neighbors fence with his car in Midland, Texas. According to police, Abila crashed his vehicle into the neighbors fence and was unable to successfully complete a series of field sobriety tests when they arrived on the scene. After submitting a breathalyzer test, police found that his blood alcohol content (BAC) level was .271%, which is more than 3 times the legal limit. Before receiving his last 3 felony DWI’s, the repeat DWI offender was arrested twice on misdemeanor DWI charges.
