Marijuana Activist Jennifer Friede Killed By Drunk Driver

Jennifer FriedeJennifer Friede, an outspoken supporter of recreational marijuana, was killed after being involved in a fatal drunk driving incident on August 31, 2013. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday morning when Friede and her boyfriend, Jeremy DePinto were on their way home from a concert. According to police, the couple were headed north on I-25 when a wrong-way driver, Rebecca Maez, veered into their car. While Jennifer Friede was killed in the incident, DePinto, who was driving, did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Speaking about the deadly drunk driving incident, DePinto said “I saw her coming, and you get that little blur, for a second, of disbelief. Once I realized it was happening, I looked to the left and right and realized we were trapped. I veered to the left, and she veered into me“. Jennifer Friede, also known as Jennifer “Kush”, was a longtime marijuana activist in the Denver area that DePinto described as a talented Artist and great mother of 4. Rebecca Maez, who was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving, was also arrested for DUI in 2009 after she was caught speeding in a construction zone. Maez remains at the Downtown Denver Detention Center on an $80,000 bond.
