Illinois Auditor General William Holland Arrested For DUI

william hollandWilliam Holland, the Illinois Auditor General, was arrested for DUI in Springfield, Illinois on February 6, 2013. Holland himself confirmed that he was charged with DUI and improper lane usage at around 11:45 pm on Wednesday. According to a police report, Holland displayed symptoms of alcohol intoxication such as glassy eyes and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath when police questioned him during a routine traffic stop. Police say that William Holland failed several field sobriety tests and refused to submit a breathalyzer test which could result in the Auditor General losing his driver’s license for one year.

Holland was released from jail after paying a $100 bail and said “I was in my own car. It was not a state vehicle. There was nobody else with me. I was on my own time. I’m happy to say that there was no damage to any property or any individual“. With that said, Holland declined to make any further comments, citing the incident as a personal matter. Holland was appointed to his third term as Auditor General last year and received high praise from lawmakers for his investigation into the administration of former Governor Rod Blagojevich. William Holland currently receives a salary of $150,346 as Auditor General and is due in court next month.
