The Houston Police Department plan on utilizing mobile labs to crack down on drunk driving. The special vans will be outfitted with breathalyzer equipment, along with a computer and fax. They may even have a small holding cell.
The self contained DWI vans will allow police to process suspected drunk drivers and transport them to jail faster. That in turn will get officers back on the streets quicker to combat crime. Harris County, Texas has one of the highest drunk driving rates in the country and Houston Police hope this new tool will help reduce that statistic.
