Florida DUI for Man Huffing Nitrous Oxide

A man from Clarksville, Tennessee was arrested for driving under the influence in Gainesville, Florida after crashing into a parked car. Police found cans of spray duster in his vehicle and the driver admitted to inhaling the aerosol specifically to get high. The ingredients of the duster include nitrous oxide, which can cause intoxication. Timothy Martin Shields says he huffs to deal with post traumatic stress disorder from his service in the U.S. Army.

Shields reportedly bought two cans of the duster and inhaled the contents of half a can. He claims, however, to have done so only after crashing into an unoccupied parked car. Shields was so intoxicated that he was taken to a medical facility at the University of Florida before being booked into the Alachua County jail on charges of Florida DUI.
