DUI Arrest Leads to Pot and Weapon Charges

Sources stated that “an early morning traffic stop led to the arrest of a convicted felon and the seizure of a handgun and about 10 pounds of marijuana.” Police officials arrested Jermaine “J.J” Morgan after they stopped the Chevrolet Trailblazer truck that his wife, Latasha Morgan, was driving. They were stopped outside of their home on Washington Avenue.

It was stated that Latasha  Morgan was arrested for DUI. When Jermaine Morgan got out of the vehicle, he “placed a Taurus .40-caliber handgun on the porch steps leading to his home.” In addition, police officials found $1,058 in cash on him while on custody. After Latasha Morgan’s arrest, she told them that her “children were at home unsupervised.” Legal officers immediately conducted a welfare investigation on their residence, where they were able to detect the strong odor of marijuana. Following this investigation, they ordered a legal warrant to fully conduct a search on the property.

Shockingly, legal officers discovered and seized “$7,124 in cash from a locked safe and 10 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $20,000…and a digital scale.” Sources stated that they were both charged with accounts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture, delivery or possession, and conspiracy to deliver. Furthermore, legal personnel determined that Jermaine Morgan “is not allowed to possess a firearm because of his criminal history – one that includes jail sentences related to a shooting incident at a Roman Catholic church festival… a 1996 aggravated assault in State College…” Latasha Morgan was released from jail on a $50,000 unsecured bail for her DUI, and Jermaine Morgan was released on a $25,000 bail for the firearm charges plus a $50,000 for the related drug offenses. They are both summoned for a court hearing on December 19 at 9 am.
