When the deputy questioned Bowman, he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from her vehicle as well as several symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Bowman allegedly had glassy red eyes and slurred speech. When the deputy asked her to exit her vehicle, she dropped a small bag containing a white, powdered substance, which was later tested and found to be cocaine.

After failing her sobriety test, Bowman was placed under arrest and taken to the Okaloosa County Jail on $3,000 bond before her release on Sunday. The Crestview High School teacher had been arrested before in 2006 for burglary of a business and resisting with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. Crestview High Principal Bob Jones has said that Bowman is no longer teaching at the school but did not say whether she resigned or was fired. Bowman had only been teaching at Crestview High School for 3 weeks after replacing another teacher who resigned after allegations of inappropriate contact with a student.
