Collier County Firefighter Sentenced To 6 Months In Prison For DUI

naples fire departmentJoseph O’Callaghan, a firefighter with Collier County, Florida was sentenced to 6 months in jail after being found guilty of DUI. The DUI incident occurred in 2011 after Callaghan was involved in a motorcycle crash that killed his colleague and close friend, Justin Petrucelli. Callaghan served as a Big Corkscrew Island firefighter and was found guilty of DUI by a jury two weeks before his sentencing.

In addition to serving 6 months in jail, Callaghan was also ordered to pay $1,000 in fines and court costs, serve 30 days of community service, complete mandatory DUI school and will serve 6 months probation. Callaghan’s attorney said that the trial had been a “traumatic experience for Joe” and that she hoped his silence during the sentencing would not be held against him. Following his sentencing, the Collier County firefighter was immediately taken into custody.
