Chicago Bears Evan Rodriguez Apologizes for DUI Arrest

evan rodriguezChicago Bears fullback Evan Rodriguez was arrested for DUI in May of 2013 and has since issued a public apology to his fans, family and teammates. Rodriguez was arrested on May 31, 2013 around 3:30 a.m. with a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of .17%, more than double the legal driving limit. Rodriguez spoke with the media after practice on Tuesday expressing his remorse over the incident and said, “I apologize to the whole organization and my family and my teammates. I know I made a poor judgment that night. I also have to earn my teammates’ trust back and the coaches’ trust back. I can say a whole bunch of words, but I have to lead by my actions.

In addition to his DUI arrest, Evan Rodriguez was arrested in March of 2013 on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence in Miami Beach. While those charges have since been dropped, his team has expressed disappointment with the fullback’s off the field legal troubles. General Manager Phil Emery commented on the incident, saying ““Evan is a very likeable (sic) guy. We have talked. I’m disappointed. I would use the word ‘extremely’ and we’ll leave it at that.” It’s not unusual for the NFL to discipline players for DUI incidents and Rodriguez has said that he is ready to accept any penalties mandated by the league. With regard to his future in the league, on and off the field, Rodriguez says he wants to be “more responsible and I have to hold myself more to a higher standard and be more accountable for my actions.
