Austin to Receive New Tool Against Texas DWI

The Austin Police Department is scheduled to receive a new mobile breath alcohol testing (BAT) truck.

The new unit will improve the department’s ability to process suspected Texas DWI cases by conducting tests for blood alcohol content near the arrest scene. The city currently has a mobile testing unit though the new, 36 foot long truck will represent a significant improvement. In addition to having two breath test stations, there new unit will feature a report writing area for officers and a restroom.

The $250,000 special truck will be paid for with Capital Metro funds, and it is due to be placed in service next Fall.
