Austin Cop Fired for Texas DWI

Austin Police Department Officer Leonardo Quintana was fired for a January 11 arrest for driving while intoxicated in Texas. Quintana was booked for suspicion of TX DWI following a traffic accident just hours after being deposed in a federal hearing.

Quintana was involved in the fatal shooting of Nathaniel Sanders in August of 2009. Police had information from three individuals that a gold colored Mercedes may be carrying firearms. When the suspected vehicle was spotted in an apartment complex, Quintana went to investigate. Sanders was asleep in the vehicle and reached for a weapon as he was awakened. Sanders and Quintana struggled for control of Sanders
