49ers Al Netter Arrested For DUI

al netterAl Netter, a backup offensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers was arrested for DUI on February 20, 2013 in San Jose, California. Netter was arrested around 3 in the morning after an officer spotted his vehicle weaving in and out of lanes just a mile from the 49ers practice facility. Al Netter will be the fourth player with the 49ers in 2 1/2 years to be charged with DUI. It is still unclear what Netter’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level was at the time of his arrest or if he performed any field sobriety tests.

An official spokesman with the San Francisco 49ers commented on Netter’s arrest, saying, “The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Al Netter. We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve comment at this time as this is an ongoing legal matter. The organization will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely“. Ray McDonald, a defensive end with the 49ers was cited for DUI in 2010 while both linebacker Aldon Smith and defensive end Demarcus Dobbs were arrested for suspicion of DUI in 2011. Al Netter, 23, joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and actually turned down a higher paying offer to be on another team’s roster, betting on a long term future with San Francisco.
