A driver suspected of driving under the influence in Washington lost control of his vehicle and struck a propane tank, causing it to explode into flames. David L. Dalgliesh was traveling westbound on a two lane road in Sedro Woolley around 8:15 pm New Year's Eve when his 1987 Ford Mustang slid off the highway. The ensuing explosion destroyed the vehicle and a house.

Dalgliesh, 45, was taken to a local medical center for treatment of injuries and burns. The occupant in the house managed to escape uninjured.

Washington State Patrol deputies believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident and are considering filing charges of DUI in Washington against Dalgliesh.

Several law enforcement agencies converged on a Toledo Washington residence after someone posted news of a large party on their Facebook account. Members of the Toledo Police, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Winlock Police and the Washington State Patrol participated in the response.

Eight people were arrested for being under the age of 21 in possession or under the influence of alcohol. An arrest for driving under the influence in Washington was also made as partygoers left the scene. The county sheriff said that underage drinking is a serious concern and his office has a zero tolerance stance on the issue.

The homeowner and his friends are under investigation for providing alcohol to minors.

Reggie Rogers was a stand-out defensive lineman and basketball player at the University of Washington and was a first round NFL draft pick with great expectations in 1987. Unfortunately, things did not progress as hoped. Rogers' life hit a new low last Tuesday when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Tacoma Washington. It was his sixth DUI offense.

The year after Rogers was drafted by the Detroit Lions, he ran a stop sign in Pontiac, Michigan and crashed into another vehicle, killing the three teenage occupants. His blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit for intoxication. Rogers served a one year prison sentence for negligent homicide and upon his release played for the Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His failed to achieve success however and he quit the NFL after the 1992 season. He is considered one of professional football's biggest draft pick busts.

Rogers was arraigned on charges of WA DUI and driving without a license last Friday. There is no indication at this time of the extent of penalties the prosecution will seek. Before his latest arrest for DUI in Washington, Rogers was arrested on October 17 and again on November 26 of 2008. One involved a crash on Interstate 5. In the other he tried to flee the scene and then claimed he was not drunk but had suffered a seizure. Rogers was sentenced to two years in prison by a King County District Court judge for those drunk driving offenses.

A Tumwater Washington municipal judge is under investigation for drunk driving following two separate accidents on September 28. Judge John Lyman is accused of striking a car with his SUV in a parking lot and leaving the scene. He then hit another vehicle and again drove off. The second victim phoned 911 and followed the SUV as the judge drove home.

A Washington State Patrol trooper arrested the judge about two hours after the incidents. While being booked at the Olympia Police Department on suspicion of driving under the influence in Washington, Lyman registered a blood alcohol content of 0.135% and 0.140% on two breath tests. The legal limit for intoxication in the state is 0.08%.

The trooper did not place Lyman in jail because the judge had been cooperative during interviews at his home.

Tumwater police are investigating the two accidents, and will be forwarding the results to the Thurston County prosecutor's office. The State Patrol is conducting a separate Washington DUI investigation. A special prosecutor from Mason County was named to the case to avoid a conflict of interest.

Lyman has agreed not to hear cases while the investigations are being conducted, though he is not on leave and is still being paid. A pro tem judge has been assigned to oversee the Tumwater municipal court cases.

The Whatcom County Sheriff's Department is reporting the Washington DUI arrest of a man who crashed two of his own cars and was stopped while driving a tow truck during an apparent effort to retrieve the wrecked vehicles.

On Monday night, Tommy Ryser, 54, crashed his truck into a utility pole. He left that vehicle and got into his wife's Volkswagen, only to crash into a guardrail. Police were investigating one of the wrecks when Ryser pulled up on the scene in a third vehicle - a tow truck he owns. Police noticed Ryser's bloodied forehead and made a traffic stop.

Ryser was booked on three counts of driving under the influence in Washington.

A 17-year old Auburn, Washington girl was arrested for drunk driving around 7:00 Wednesday morning. The un-named girl hit a guardrail on Interstate 5 with her 1997 BMW, puncturing her right front tire and damaging 15-feet of the barrier. She then drove off allegedly in an effort to reach her home. A witness contacted the Washington State Patrol and followed the suspect until her car became disabled on the exit for South 320th Street.

The girl initially told the police that she had fallen asleep but later confessed to drinking alcohol. A breath test showed her blood alcohol content was .084%. The legal threshold for intoxication is .08% for an adult, and .02% for a minor. The girl was charged with driving under the influence in Washington and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Bellevue woman was arrested for driving under the influence in Washington just hours before her wedding. The unidentified 31-year old was reportedly returning from a bachelorette party around 6:00 am Saturday morning when she was spotted weaving in and out of her lane and traveling in excess of 90 miles per hour on I-405.

A Washington State Patrol trooper said the woman admitted to a prior Washington DUI arrest and said she knew the routine. She apparently was anxious to get the booking under way because she was to get married in an early-afternoon ceremony. Upon her release, she took a taxi home.

The bride registered a blood alcohol content of .146%. The threshold for intoxication in Washington is .08%. After her honeymoon, she will face charges of drunk driving in King County Washington District Court.

Jake Harris, star of 'Deadliest Catch', was arrested for driving under the influence in Seattle Washington around 9:00 pm last Thursday. Harris reportedly struck the rear of another vehicle with a 3-Series BMW and fled the scene. A report of an erratic driver in Shoreline allowed a Washington State Patrol aircraft to spot the vehicle and direct troopers to it.

Harris failed a field sobriety test and refused to have his blood alcohol content tested. He was booked at the King County Jail for DUI in Washington, driving with a suspended license and additional traffic offenses.

Jake Harris, 24, is the son of Captain Phil Harris who suffered a stroke and died less than two weeks ago. The BMW is registered to the late, elder Harris. Jake and his brother Joshua are deckhands on the crab fishing vessel 'Cornelia Marie' on the Discovery Channel show.

On Wednesday evening, a sergeant with the Spokane Police Department was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Washington. Sgt. Brad Thoma is accused of causing a minor accident and then fleeing the scene before Washington State Patrol troopers arrived.

Thoma reportedly rear-ended another vehicle at low speed as traffic slowed for a red light. He then drove on before stopping in a parking lot, where he was met by authorities. A breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .17%, more than twice the legal limit for intoxication.

Thoma, who is one of Spokane's most productive patrol sergeants, appeared in District Court Thursday and entered a plea of not guilty to DUI in Washington. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay until his court date in November. It is Thoma's first offense for suspected DUI in WA. The Spokane County prosecutor's office is also considering filing charges of hit-and-run.

Law enforcement agencies in Pierce and Kitsap combined to conduct special saturation patrols targeting motorists suspected of driving under the influence in Washington. Fifty extra officers on patrol led to 35 WA DUI arrests last Saturday night. A spokesperson felt that even more arrests could have been made because manpower had to be diverted to two wrecks with fatalities.

The special emphasis patrols are part of the statewide anti-DUI initiative called ‘Drive Hammered, Get Nailed’. The patrols initiated a total of 439 traffic stops on Saturday. A spokesperson said that the patrols would be rolling again in force next weekend, focusing on areas with statistically high numbers of Washington drunk driving arrests and serious accidents. The 26 officers on the detail include three who have been specially trained to test drivers for drug impairment.

Law enforcement officials issued 110 violations for boating under the influence in Washington during the recent Seafair weekend. That number reflects a 23 percent increase over the number of Seattle BUI arrests made during last year's event.

Seattle area police departments conducted special patrols on Lake Washington and Lake Union over the weekend. In addition to looking for potentially drunk boat operators, the officers stopping boats for having too many passengers and for violating 'no wake' zones. Most offenders were cited and released. One boater however was jailed after being charged with two WA BUI offenses, one on Friday and another on Sunday.

In addition, 50 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence in King County during the weekend.
