TX DPS Refuses to Release Video of Mike Krusee’s DWI Arrest in Austin
Department of Public Safety claims ongoing case of driving while intoxicated in Texas.
Using the Texas Public Information Act, a local television station sought the videotape of state lawmaker Mike Krusee’s arrest for drunk driving in Austin. The Department of Public Safety has denied the request for the dash-cam video, citing a code that allows law enforcement agencies to withhold information during an active investigation.
Krusee was stopped in northwest Austin earlier this month for driving erratically and having expired license plates. He failed a field sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of Texas DWI.
Krusee has been a member of the Texas legislature since 1993. He is not seeking re-election but was rumored to be a candidate for appointment to the Texas Transportation Commission. During his tenure in the State House chambers, Krusee was instrumental in passing ‘driver responsibility’ legislation calling for surcharges on motorists arrested for driving while intoxicated in Texas.
