State Lawmaker Mike Krusee Charged with Texas DWI in NW Austin

Representative Mike Krusee arrested for drunk driving in Austin area.

Mike KruseeMike Krusee, Republican chairman of the Texas House Transportation Committee, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence in Texas late Wednesday.

Krusee was stopped by a Texas DPS trooper for driving erratically in northwest Austin. His vehicle registration was also expired. The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol and had Krusee performed a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed.

Krusee was booked at the Williamson County jail on the charge of drunk driving in Texas. He refused to submit to a breath test, and under Texas DWI law his driver's license was suspended for 180 days. With a first offense misdemeanor DWI, the state lawmaker could be facing probation to 180 days in jail plus fines.

Krusee has represented the Round Rock area of the metropolitan Austin area since 1993. He is a close political ally of Governor Rick Perry. Krusee sponsored legislation that led to the state's toll-road system, and the law's language includes a driver responsibility program that calls for a $1000 surcharge for first time offenders convicted of Driving While Intoxicated in Texas.

If you have been charged with a DWI in Central Texas you will need to hire a DWI lawyer in Austin.

Mike Krusee - booked in Williamson County

Well ... this is going to be hard for him I imagine both personally and professionally. To begin, getting charged for a crime in Williamson county is just not good news. But add in the DWI component along with his previous legislative trumpeting of stronger sentencing for first time DWI -- and you've got a volatile cocktail for trouble.

But on the other hand, just being stopped for driving erratically does not by definition mean he was drinking. There is ALWAYS the possibility the officier was in error in his judgment. I was stopped in for making a U Turn in Sunset Valley a few years ago. I made a left turn. I faught the ticket but it help, what the officer said happened, happened and the judge wouldn't hear anything of it. It wasn't worth fighting further so I paid the fine but with a DWI ... Krusee is going to need good representation. The news said he only had a single glass of wine over dinner.

We'll see ... we'll see ...
