The waitress from Central Florida who claimed to have had an affair with golfer Tiger Woods has been sentenced to one year in jail for drunk driving. Mindy Lawton entered a no contest plea in Orange County court last Friday to charges of driving under the influence in Florida. In addition to the jail sentence, she was placed on five years of probation, had her license revoked for 180 days and ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

Lawton's FL DUI arrest occurred in early 2009 after she crashed into another car. Her blood alcohol content was reportedly .18%. The driver of the other vehicle suffered broken ribs, back and facial injuries, and cited memory loss.

Lawton, 34, said she met Tiger Woods in 2006 while working as a manager at Perkins Restaurant. Graphic details of their affair were revealed after Woods crashed his SUV on Thanksgiving Day in 2009 following an argument with his wife, Elin.

A Florida Panhandle man was arrested for drunk driving and using his son to bypass a court ordered ignition interlock device. A passenger in his pick-up truck was also arrested for trying to shoot at a robo-deer set up by a state agency to combat poaching.

Two officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission were working near a decoy in a wildlife management area when they spotted a pick-up stop nearby. A passenger in the vehicle climbed into the truck bed with a rifle and started to target the deer. When the officers identified themselves, Nicholas Tyler Burdeshaw jumped out of the truck and was nearly run over by the escaping driver. He ran into the woods where he was soon apprehended. Burdeshaw was charged with night hunting and, because he is a convicted sex offender, felon in possession of a firearm.

The officers investigated the truck driver and discovered that he had multiple convictions for Florida DUI and had an ignition interlock in his vehicle. The unidentified driver refused to submit to a breath test. Authorities determined that the man had used his 17-year old son to breath into the special alcohol detecting device in order to start the truck. The man was charged with non-felony, simple FL DUI, as well as night hunting.

The Okaloosa Sheriff's Office was involved in an odd impaired driving arrest in September when a man went into a nude rage. Christopher Nicholas Bos crashed his 2002 GMC sport utility vehicle into a 2005 Lexus LS450. He then attempted to drive off, crashing into a nearby residential and golf development entrance gate. A witness told deputies that Bos ran off, naked, with his dog.

Deputies arrived on the scene about 6:30 pm, and Bos' father let them into his son's home. The younger Bos was found lying on his bed, incoherent and emotional, with blood smeared on his body and bed sheets. When an EMS team arrived, Bos resisted, kicking until a deputy Tased him. He then spit on an officer while being transported to a local medical center.

Bos, 27, was initially charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. The state's attorney general's office recently added misdemeanor Florida DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Bos remains in the Okaloosa County Jail.

Florida Highway Patrol officers stopped a white 2008 Mercedes for erratic driving on the Florida Turnpike in Port St. Lucie. The vehicle was observed traveling off the edge of the road and back into a lane several times. The driver, former teen idol and Partridge Family actor David Cassidy, admitted to having a glass of wine with lunch followed by a prescription painkiller. He failed to mention, however, the half empty bottle of bourbon the trooper saw in the back seat.

Cassidy's blood alcohol content measured 0.139% and 0.141% during breath tests. He was booked for driving under the influence in Florida, failure to maintain a lane and having an open container. He was later released on $350 bond.

Cassidy, 60, is best known for his role on the Partridge Family during the 70s. He recorded several albums and singles, including the hits 'C'mon Get Happy' and 'I Think I Love You'.

A 65 year old woman in Ocala Florida tried to avoid an arrest for drunk driving by offering to make the police officer a grilled cheese sandwich. Elsie Wright O'Conner was stopped Thursday night after reports of an erratic driver. Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Calvin Batts smelled alcohol on O'Conner's breath and found two bottles of Skyy vodka in her Cadillac SUV. One of the bottles was empty and the other was half full.

O'Conner pleaded with Batts to not charge her, stating she was a grandma and not that bad. She went on to say, "I could have brought you back to my house and made you a grilled cheese sandwich."

O'Conner reportedly failed a field sobriety test. While being booked on charges of driving under the influence in FL, O'Conner's blood alcohol content registered more than three times the legal limit.

A 20-year old Florida man is in fair condition after a woman crashed into him Friday night and fled. Bruce Barber is being treated for a broken leg and possible broken ribs. He was struck around 11:30 pm by a 1997 BMW driven by Jessica J. Eddy. St. Petersburg police have not indicated how they tracked the vehicle, but when they arrived at Eddy's home they found the scooter still stuck to the front of the car.

Eddy, 22, was arrested for driving under the influence in Florida, DUI with injury, leaving the scene of an accident and for driving with a suspended driver's license. She was convicted for DUI in California in 2009 and is facing charges for an August drunk driving arrest in St. Petersburg. Her license was suspended after she refused to submit to a breath test during the August arrest.

Eddy was booked at the Pinellas County Jail and her bail as set at $23,000. She is scheduled to be in court Monday, October 4.

Two men in Clearwater Florida have come up with an idea to fill a niche market. Doug Vitello and Gary Pharr own a scooter business and have struggled with the volatility of the market. After a bit of research, they began advertising 'DUI Scooters' to those convicted of driving under the influence in Florida.

After a Florida DUI, defendants typically have their license suspended. Because the DUI Scooter is electric and has a top speed of 20 miles per hour, it is legal to operate without a valid driver's license. The X-treme scooter, manufactured in China and distributed in California, looks like a typical two wheel scooter with headlights, turn signals and pedals for manual operation. It costs between $1200-2000, and the scooter shop is selling about 10 per month. The shop even includes a copy of the DUI law to provide officers during a traffic stop.

Customers who have purchased the special scooters are pleased to have the mobility to ride to work and the store. Law enforcement officials are not quite so enthused, and are looking into ways to approach electric scooter use by FL DUI offenders.

A Sarasota firefighter was arrested for driving under the influence in neighboring Manatee County early Saturday morning. Derek Patrick Maxwell flipped his car and ended up in the trees and bushes in a highway median around 1:00 am. Maxwell was in his full firefighting uniform at the time of the accident. He admitted to consuming six beers and two bourbon shots at a nearby restaurant. Maxwell refused to submit to a breath test to check his blood alcohol content.

Two fire chiefs who arrived on the scene to collect the fire department gear said that Maxwell exhibited dramatic mood swings, from anger to crying to shouting to banging his head in the patrol vehicle. When he removed his firefighting pants, a Florida State Patrol trooper observed that Maxwell had urinated on himself and reeked of alcohol.

Maxwell, 24, was booked on a charge of Florida DUI with property damage. He told an arresting trooper that he planned to say in his defense that he had been framed by the Sarasota Sheriff's Department.

A Hollywood, Florida teen has been charged with driving under the influence after a single vehicle crash that killed his best friend. According to the Florida State Patrol, on August 27 Roee Chai Ben-Amor, 18, lost control of his 2007 Kia Optima on an interstate highway and struck a pole. The car burst into flames. The lone passenger in the car, Samuel Gargir, 18, died at the scene. Ben-Amor survived with a broken leg.

After the return of toxicology tests, Ben-Amor was charged with Florida DUI, DUI manslaughter and DUI manslaughter impairment.

Ben-Amor made his first court appearance on Wednesday, September 15, and the judge ordered him to post $60,000 bond and to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. The defendant and his FL DUI defense attorney also had to answer questions concerning his possible flight risk. A relative purchased an airline ticket to Israel for the young man, though it is claimed that it was done without Ben-Amor's knowledge and that he had no intention of using the ticket.
