A University of Colorado student was arrested for riding a bike under the influence around 11:30 Saturday night after an unsteady ride through Boulder. Nineteen year old Patricia Forget rode her mountain bike through a red light at a major intersection and struck a car. Fortunately the driver saw Forget coming and remained stationery. Forget steadied herself by placing her hand on the hood of the car and then pedaled off only to strike the curb of the median and fall over.

A Boulder police officer who observed all this initiated a traffic investigation. Forget reportedly had red and watery eyes, laughed at inappropriate times and admitted she should not be riding her bike because she was "too drunk". She failed a series of field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.215%.

Forget was booked for drunk riding and the bike was confiscated for evidence. Police say this is the fifth DUI arrest of the year of a suspected drunken cyclist. There were three such arrests in 2008 and five last year.

A 37-year old driver of a Jeep Commander ran off the road at a t-intersection, struck a guardrail and rolled down an embankment into an irrigation canal in Weld County. The wreck occurred near the Timnath Reservoir shortly before 2:00 am Wednesday morning.

The driver, Eric Brian Wells, was pronounced dead at the scene. His six passengers all suffered moderate injuries, with some being trapped in the vehicle in the canal. The six were extracted by rescue crews and transported to local hospitals.

Colorado State Troopers investigating the accident believe that alcohol was a factor. Wells was charged with Colorado DUI in 2009, but pled guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired. He was arrested again with driving under the influence in Colorado in 2003, and he pled guilty to that charge.

Police in Greeley report a man being busted twice for driving under the influence in Colorado. The second time was after the suspect stole a patrol car.

Adam Segura, 32, was stooped for speeding around 1:30 pm on September 9, and the officer noticed several signs of drinking, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol. Segura admitted to drinking and he was arrested for suspicion of DUI in Colorado, handcuffed from behind and placed in a squad car. While the arresting officer and aback-up officer were interviewing witnesses, Segura managed to slip out of the cuffs, undo the seat belt and took off in the cruiser. Police pursued Segura for about a mile before he stopped near the entrance to Greeley Mall.

A police spokesperson says it is conducting an investigation but doubts the officer violated any department procedure, noting that there was no cage between the front and back seats. The vehicle was valued at over $20,000 and the special police equipment at another $10,000.

Segura's blood alcohol content registered 0.26%, more than three times the legal limit for impairment in Colorado. He was booked at the Weld County Jail on a total of 12 charges, including two counts of drunk driving in Colorado, escape, speeding and aggravated vehicle theft.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has released preliminary numbers from the '100 Days of Heat' anti-drunk driving campaign. The total number of arrests for driving under the influence in Colorado dropped 12 percent, from 3,531 in 2009 to 3,111 arrests this year. The state-wide effort included saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints conducted between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend.

The number of Colorado DUI arrests totaled 651 over the Memorial Day holiday; 591 over the Fourth of July; and 1650 during two weeks around Labor Day. In addition to a drop in the number of arrests, there was a 15% decline in alcohol related traffic fatalities – from 55 to 47.

Despite the official end of the '100 Days of Heat' campaign, state law enforcement agencies will continue crackdowns on DUI in CO this fall. Targeted dates include the Halloween weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

Van Vuren, was traveling westbound around 9:40 pm when his rig went off the road, hit a traffic containment wall, rolled onto its left side and slid some distance down the highway. The overturned truck came to a stop blocking both westbound lanes.

Deputies suspect Van Vuren was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Van Vuren, 49, consented to a test for blood alcohol content, the results of which will not be known for several weeks. He was arrested on charges of suspicion of Colorado DUI and careless driving, and later released with a summons.

Sparks from the crash caused the truck and nearby grass to catch fire, both which were extinguished by firefighters within 30 minutes. The interstate was closed for six hours. The truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of beer.

The Colorado State Patrol is crediting the efforts of two men who saved a suspected drunk driver from drowning. Christopher Lyons, who was in Fort Collins to enroll his son in college, and Martin Murphy, a local business owner, quickly acted after witnessing a car crash into the Lake Canal Ditch.

The driver of the vehicle, Bradley Hill, had driven onto the shoulder along the canal and then into the water around 2:00 pm Wednesday. Lyons and Murphy managed to extract him from the submerged, over-turned car.

Hill was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. He has been charged with driving under the influence in Colorado and reckless driving.

The Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies have launched a summer campaign against drunk driving. The state-wide initiative is called '100 Days of Heat' and it will be conducted between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Police will be utilizing high visibility Colorado DUI patrols and sobriety checkpoints to spot suspected impaired drivers.

During the 2009 crackdown on driving under the influence in Colorado, officers made 3,531 arrests. Statistics show that nearly one-third of all traffic deaths involving alcohol occur between the two major holidays marking the beginning and end of summer.
Colorado State Patrol troopers are piecing together details of an impaired driving incident on Interstate 70 Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, Robin Boyce was driving westbound on I-70 in Jefferson County when she hit a truck around 12:30 pm. She continued driving west for about 40 miles before striking a tractor-trailer rig. The impact of the second crash partially ripped the top of her Volkswagen Beetle off.

Boyce drove two more miles before striking a guard rail. She then exited the highway near Silverthorne and parked at a Wendy's fast food restaurant. She attempted to run from police but was apprehended. Boyce was taken to a local hospital for a check-up before being booked on suspicion of DUI in Colorado at the Summit County Jail.

Boyce had a golden retriever in the vehicle at the time. The dog was unharmed and was taken by Summit County Animal Control.
