Tony La Russa to Plead Guilty to Florida DUI
St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa arrested for drunk driving during spring training.
According to a statement issued Wednesday morning by his DUI defense attorney, St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has elected to plead guilty to driving drunk in Florida. La Russa was arrested in Jupiter, Florida last March as the baseball team was in spring training.
La Russa was spotted slumped over the steering wheel of his Ford Expedition, and he failed to move during two green light cycles. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .093, above the legal limit of .08.
In the prepared statement, La Russa said that, after much consideration, he “decided to authorize the entry of a guilty plea to Driving Under the Influence.”
After being booked and released from jail, La Russa headed straight to the local stadium to resume his managerial duties. He later expressed regret for the incident, and apologized to baseball fans and the Cardinal’s organization.
