Sam Shepard Pleads Guilty to Illinois DUI
Actor was arrested for drunk driving in January.
Actor and Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Sam Shepard entered a guilty plea in court to charges of driving under the influence in Illinois. Shepard was stopped around 2:00 am for speeding on January 3 after spending time in a Bllomington bar. He frequently would stop in the town during travel between relatives in Minnesota and his home in Kentucky.
Prosecutors revealed that Shepard’s blood alcohol content was 0.175%, over twice the legal limit for intoxication in Illinois.
Shepard told the judge that driving under the influence was “just not worth it” and said he had no intent to do it again. The ‘Right Stuff’ actor was sentenced to two years probation, fined $600, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and made to enter an alcohol treatment program. Due to work scheduled to take him to locations like New York and Ireland, Shepard will be allowed to attend counseling and perform community service outside of the state.
