Nicole Richie Sentenced to Jail

Television personality to serve 90 hours for recent DUI

Nicole Richie was sentenced to spend four days in jail for a recent California DUI. The actual sentence was 96 hours with 6 hours credited for time already spent in jail. Richie was given three years probation, fined over $2,000 and ordered to attend drug and alcohol counseling. Her driver’s license was also suspended.

The 25-year old television celebrity was arrested and charged with driving under the influence last December after being found parked in her SUV pointed in the wrong direction on a California freeway. She reportedly was under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin pain killers. It was her second DUI offense, as she was convicted of drunk driving in 2002.

A Superior Court Commissioner warned Ritchie that she would be sentenced to one year of incarceration if she violated the terms of her probation. That includes driving at any time without a license and then driving with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system after return of her license.
