Mischa Barton Hates Drunk Drivers

In a recent interview Mischa Barton has said that she was disgusted with herself following an arrest for driving under the influence in LA. She went on to say, “The thing is, I hate drunk drivers. Living in L.A., I can't stand them.”

The former star of the television show ‘The O.C.’ said that she wanted to prove to the court that she took the incident seriously and that she was not an alcoholic who might repeat the drunk driving offense by entering rehab. While Barton believes that going to rehab helped her avoid more serious penalties, she plead guilty to California DUI and received a three year probation sentence before deciding to seek help.

Barton was arrested for DUI in LA last December. She entered her guilty plea in April and was relieved when the charge of marijuana possession was dropped.

Mischa Barton has said that her arrest for Driving Under the Influence in Los Angeles was a low point in her life that she will never forget. Her 2007 arrest for drunk driving led to a guilty plea and three years of probation. Barton, 22, regrets her poor judgment and expressed disappointment in now being grouped with other celebrity females nabbed for drinking and driving in Southern California. The list includes , Nicole Richie, Khloe Kardashian and Paris Hilton.

Barton is the third celebrity in the span of a week to express remorse for a California DUI arrest. Nicole Richie said she hopes to set a better example for her 5-month old daughter, and Kiefer Sutherland announced his arrest was a "dumb mistake".

Mischa Barton Formally Charged with California Drunk Driving in LA

Mischa Barton was formally charged with four misdemeanors related to a California DUI arrest late last year. The offenses include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit of .08%, driving without a license and possession of marijuana.

The former star of ‘The OC’ was arrested December 27th on suspicion of drinking and driving in LA after being spotted straddling two lanes of traffic and not signaling a turn.

Her California DUI lawyer indicated that he was pleased that Barton had only been charged with misdemeanor offenses. Barton is scheduled to be arraigned in Beverly Hills Superior Court on Thursday, February 28.

Barton played the character of Marissa Cooper on ‘The OC’ for four seasons. She has also appeared in the movie ‘The Sixth Sense’.

Jack Osbourne, the son of Ozzy Osbourne, developed a party reputation while starring in the MTV reality show ‘The Osbournes’. Mischa Barton was stopped around 2:45 am in the Los Angeles area of West Hollywood while driving her white Range Rover and charged with California DUI, possession of illegal drugs and driving without a valid license.

Barton was still being held at 8:00 am Thursday pending posting of a $10,000 bail.

The 21-year old actress played bad-girl Marissa Cooper on the television series ‘The O.C.’ and she has roles in three films scheduled for release.
