Keifer Sutherland Reportedly Head-Butts Clothing Designer

While at an after-party for a costume gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night, Keifer Sutherland confronted and then head-butted clothing designer Jack McCollough. The action left McCollough with lacerations on his nose. Sutherland claimed that he was only coming to the assistance of actress Brooke Shields, saying that McCollough had knocked her over. That motive came into question however when Shields' spokesperson said nothing had happened between her and Mr. McCollough.

Sutherland, star of the television drama '24', is on probation for 2007 conviction for driving under the influence in California. It was his fourth arrest for DUI. It is not known if the incident in New York will be considered a violation of his probation agreement.

Kiefer Sutherland Completes DUI Jail Sentence

Kiefer Sutherland left a Glendale, California jail after serving his entire 48-day sentence for a drinking and driving and probation violation. The 41-year actor was released minutes after midnight, early Monday morning.

Wearing a shirt and blue jeans, Sutherland appeared pleased that he was leaving the facility. He spent Christmas, New Year’s and his December 21st birthday behind bars. During his incarceration, Sutherland was reportedly a model prisoner, never asking for preferential treatment. He performed laundry duty and helped out in the kitchen.

Sutherland was charged with a DUI in California last October and sentenced to 30 days in jail. An additional 18 days were added for violating probation terms of a 2004 drunk driving conviction. He was allowed to serve his sentence in the suburban city jail rather than the Los Angeles county facility, in exchange for waiving the possibility of time off for good behavior or release due to overcrowding.

Sutherland remains on probation for five years. He must attend weekly therapy for six months and complete an 18-month alcohol awareness program.

On Tuesday, Kiefer Sutherland’s criminal defense attorney Blair Berk entered a ‘no contest’ plea on his behalf to resolve charges of drunk driving. Sutherland must serve 30 days in jail plus an additional 18 days for a probation violation. Under the plea agreement he was charged with having a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of .08%. A second charge of California DUI was dropped by the prosecution.

Superior Court Judge Stuart Rice revoked the 40-year old actor’s probation from a 2004 drunk driving incident and sentenced him to 18 days in jail. Sutherland will begin serving that jail term in December. The 30-day jail sentence stems from a second arrest for suspicion of DUI made last month. Sutherland was stopped for making an illegal u-turn in Los Angeles and he failed a breath test.

In addition to jail time, the star of Fox Television’s ‘24’ will be required to enroll in an 18 month alcohol education program and attend weekly alcohol therapy for six months.

Sutherland stated, “I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I'm deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers on `24' and at 20th Century Fox.” Fox has come out in support of the actor, citing a “long term relationship.”

Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Jack Bauer on the Fox series ‘24’, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence Monday night. Police pulled over the 40-year old actor around shortly after 1:00 am after he made an illegal u-turn at the intersection of La Cienega and Beverly boulevards.

The results of a preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of 0.08%. Sutherland was booked for misdemeanor DUI at the Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood station and released on $25,000 bail. Sutherland was reportedly “cooperative and mellow.”

Sutherland had been at the Fox sponsored ‘Fall Eco-Casino Party.’ It is Sutherland’s second DUI as he was arrested in 2004.

Sutherland won a Best Dramatic Actor Emmy last year for his role as Counter Terrorist Unit agent Jack Bauer. He has starred in several films, including ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Flatliners’ and ‘A Few Good Men’.
