Chad Kroeger DUI

The sentencing phase of Chad Kroeger's case of driving under the influence has resulted in the Nickelback singer losing his driver's license for one year and being fined $590.

Kroeger was stopped for speeding in his Lamborghini in June 2006 in a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. After detecting alcohol, the officers adminstered a breath test. Kroger's blood alcohol level registered .14% and he was charged with drunk driving.

Kroeger's DUI defense attorney had unsuccessfully tried to get the test results thrown out. The singer was not in court last month and a judge declared him guilty of driving while intoxicated.

Kroeger, whose birth name is Chad Robert Turton, plans to appeal the sentence.

Kroeger was stopped for speeding in suburban Vancouver British Columbia last year and he registered a blood-alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit for intoxication. He is now required to attend a May 1 court date for sentencing.

Nickelback Singer Wants DWI Case Dismissed

Chad Kroeger fighting summer 2006 arrest for speeding and drunk driving

The DWI defense attorney for the lead singer of the Canadian rock band Nickelback is seeking dismissal of drunk driving charges filed against his client. At issue are the results of a breath test administered after Chad Kroeger was stopped for speeding in the Vancouver suburban of Surrey, British Columbia. Kroeger’s lawyer claims the results should be excluded because the arresting officer did not follow procedures established by DWI laws by waiting too long to conduct the test. In addition, the defense lawyer has said there was no reasonable cause to assume Kroeger was driving while intoxicated.

Kroeger, whose real name is Chad Turton, was stopped by the RMCP around 2:00 am on June 22, 2006 for excessive speeding. A drunk driving investigation was undertaken and Kroeger’s blood alcohol content registered .14%. Kroeger was charged with impaired drinking and driving with a BAC over the legal limit of .08%.

The provincial court judge is to make a decision on the case by February 20.

Nickleback’s Singer to Plead Not Guilty to DUI

Nickleback’s Lead Singer, Chad Kroeger, to Plead Not Guilty to DUI

Chad Kroeger of Nickleback DUIChad Kroeger’s court arraignment stemming from drunk driving charges has been postponed until September 15. His DUI defense attorney has indicated the lead singer for the popular band Nickleback will plead not guilty.

Currently on tour with the band, Kroeger is not required to be in the provincial court in Surrey, BC in person until the start of a trial.

Kroeger was arrested for DUI in Surrey on June 22 after being stopped for erratic driving and registering a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit. If found guilty he faces fines of up to $800, the suspension of his driver’s license for one year and a criminal record.

His DUI defense attorney said "Chad Kroeger does not condone drinking and driving." He went on to express concern about the ramifications of the case, as a criminal record could impact the singer’s career, especially with travel to the United States.

Nickelback Singer Chad Kroeger Charged with Drunk Driving

Chad KroegerChad Kroeger, the lead singer and guitarist for Canadian rock band Nickelback, has been formally charged with drunk driving. The Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge stems from an investigation initiated after Kroeger was stopped for drag racing in Surrey, British Columbia on June 22, 2006.

According to spokesperson Corporal Roger Morrow of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Kroeger was stopped last June at about 2 a.m because of “excessive speed and erratic driving.” Officers in two police cars stopped Kroeger without incident and a drunk driving investigation was initiated.

Stan Lowe, who is spokesman for Crown counsel in British Columbia, indicated that Chad Kroeger (31) is free on a "promise to appear before a judge in Surrey Provincial Court on August 25. Kroeger, whose real name is Chad Robert Turton, is charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over .08."

The pending court appearance may impact Nickelback’s current North American tour. The rock band is scheduled to be in Texas during late August, with performances in Wichita Falls on August 24 and Houston the following night.

Nickelback became one of the most popular rock groups in North America after its 2001 ‘Silver Side Up’ album debuted at No. 1 in Canada and No. 2 in the US. The band started in Alberta, Canada, but has been based in British Columbia since 1996.

Vancouver lawyer Jonathan Simkin, who is partner with Kroeger in the music label 604 Records and the entertainment lawyer for the band, said "Chad's a great friend and a great business partner. It's an unfortunate incident." He added that Surrey lawyer Marvin Stern will represent Kroeger on the drunk driving charge.
