The former defensive end for the Minnesota Vikings was seen running a stop sign in his SUV and racing through the streets of Minneapolis at speeds up to 60 miles per hour. Eller reportedly did not stop until he reached his garage, at which point he refused to exit his vehicle. When he finally did, he threw a punch at the police officers.

Police used a Taser on the 66-year old Eller and, with the help of back-up officers, he was eventually subdued. Eller refused to submit to a breath or blood test and he was booked for Minnesota DWI at the Hennepin County jail. He was also charged with fleeing police and striking an officer.

Eller played for the Minnesota Vikings between 1964-78 and was part of the famed 'Purple People Eaters' defensive squad. He played in four Super Bowls with the Vikings, and in six Pro Bowls. Eller was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
