Charles Oakley Caught Drinking & Driving

Former NBA star Charles Oakley busted in Georgia hours after his birthday.

Charles OakleyFormer NBA All-Star Charles Oakley was arrested for drinking and driving north of Atlanta early Tuesday morning. Around 3:00 am, just hours after his birthday, Oakley was stopped by Auburn, Georgia police who spotted him driving erratically in his 2008 Range Rover.

A breath test revealed Oakley’s blood alcohol content was below the legal limit though police were able to charge him with a lesser offense of ‘impaired driving’. Under Georgia DUI law, a motorist can be arrested if “under the influence of alcohol to the extent that it is less safe for the person to drive.”

Oakley was reportedly cooperative. He spent three hours in a Gwinnett County Jail before posting bond. An arraignment date has been set for February 20, 2008.

Oakley, 44, was a revered New York Knicks player, having played for the team between 1988 and 1998. He retired in 2004 after 19 years in the NBA, though he has considered a return to the sport.

Mickey Rourke DUI Could Be Dropped

Florida police admit breathalyzer was faulty.

The Florida DUI charged against Mickey Rourke last month may be dismissed due to malfunctioning equipment. Rourke was arrested after he left a Miami Beach nightclub and was seen making an illegal u-turn and weaving on his Vespa scooter.

An initial breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .081, just above the legal limit for intoxication in Florida. However, a second test on a different piece of equipment showed a BAC of .074%, which is under the legal limit. The Miami Beach police department is now admitting that the Breathalyzer used in the first test was broken and the results were inaccurate.

Rourke's criminal defense lawyer has said that the 51-year-old actor’s driver’s license has already been returned. The District Attorney has not made a decision on whether to drop the drunk driving charges.

Scott Weiland Arrested for DUI in California – Los Angeles DUI Lawyer

Scott Weiland DUI: Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland denies driving under the influence.

Scott WeilandScott Weiland was and charged with driving under the influence following an accident on November 21 in the Los Angeles area. Weiland’s struggles with drug addiction during his music career have been well documented, though his agent claims the incident was minor and that the singer for Velvet Revolver was not on drugs.

Police were investigating a non-injury accident around 6:18 pm in Van Nuys and suspected Weiland, determined to be at fault in the wreck, might be impaired. He reportedly was not able to satisfactorily perform a series of field sobriety tests. Weiland voluntarily submitted to a breath test, though he refused to take a blood or urine test.

The former lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots has been arrested numerous times for a variety of offenses, including a California DUI conviction in 2003, buying crack cocaine in 1995 and domestic violence in 2001.

Weiland was released on $40,000 bail, which is significantly higher than average bail for a misdemeanor DUI but may be due to his past arrests. He is scheduled to appear in court December 13.

Weiland, 40, has cited his family as the reason for putting his drug years behind him, saying, “I don't think anymore about getting high.”
