Grant Money Funds Arizona DUI Initiatives
State money will allow police to conduct sobriety checkpoints.
The Tucson Police Department announced that it is the recipient of a $207,000 grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. The funds will be used to conduct sobriety checkpoints each weekend through September.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office recently also reported receiving state grant money that will be used in its pursuit of motorists suspected of driving under the influence in Arizona.
The Southern Arizona DUI Taskforce has announced that it will use a $150,700 grant to pay for overtime and benefits for task force members. In addition to sobriety checkpoints, additional DUI patrols will be scheduled, including a crack down on suspected drunk driving in AZ during the upcoming Tucson Rodeo.
