Kiefer Sutherland Completes DUI Jail Sentence
’24’ star spent 48 days in jail for drunk driving and probation violations.
Kiefer Sutherland left a Glendale, California jail after serving his entire 48-day sentence for a drinking and driving and probation violation. The 41-year actor was released minutes after midnight, early Monday morning.
Wearing a shirt and blue jeans, Sutherland appeared pleased that he was leaving the facility. He spent Christmas, New Year’s and his December 21st birthday behind bars. During his incarceration, Sutherland was reportedly a model prisoner, never asking for preferential treatment. He performed laundry duty and helped out in the kitchen.
Sutherland was charged with a DUI in California last October and sentenced to 30 days in jail. An additional 18 days were added for violating probation terms of a 2004 drunk driving conviction. He was allowed to serve his sentence in the suburban city jail rather than the Los Angeles county facility, in exchange for waiving the possibility of time off for good behavior or release due to overcrowding.
Sutherland remains on probation for five years. He must attend weekly therapy for six months and complete an 18-month alcohol awareness program.

Charles Oakley Caught Drinking & Driving
Former NBA star Charles Oakley busted in Georgia hours after his birthday.
Former NBA All-Star Charles Oakley was arrested for drinking and driving north of Atlanta early Tuesday morning. Around 3:00 am, just hours after his birthday, Oakley was stopped by Auburn, Georgia police who spotted him driving erratically in his 2008 Range Rover.
A breath test revealed Oakley’s blood alcohol content was below the legal limit though police were able to charge him with a lesser offense of ‘impaired driving’. Under Georgia DUI law, a motorist can be arrested if “under the influence of alcohol to the extent that it is less safe for the person to drive.”
Oakley was reportedly cooperative. He spent three hours in a Gwinnett County Jail before posting bond. An arraignment date has been set for February 20, 2008.
Oakley, 44, was a revered New York Knicks player, having played for the team between 1988 and 1998. He retired in 2004 after 19 years in the NBA, though he has considered a return to the sport.

Mickey Rourke DUI Could Be Dropped
Florida police admit breathalyzer was faulty.
The Florida DUI charged against Mickey Rourke last month may be dismissed due to malfunctioning equipment. Rourke was arrested after he left a Miami Beach nightclub and was seen making an illegal u-turn and weaving on his Vespa scooter.
An initial breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .081, just above the legal limit for intoxication in Florida. However, a second test on a different piece of equipment showed a BAC of .074%, which is under the legal limit. The Miami Beach police department is now admitting that the Breathalyzer used in the first test was broken and the results were inaccurate.
Rourke's criminal defense lawyer has said that the 51-year-old actor’s driver’s license has already been returned. The District Attorney has not made a decision on whether to drop the drunk driving charges.

Scott Weiland Arrested for DUI in California – Los Angeles DUI Lawyer
Scott Weiland DUI: Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland denies driving under the influence.
Scott Weiland was and charged with driving under the influence following an accident on November 21 in the Los Angeles area. Weiland’s struggles with drug addiction during his music career have been well documented, though his agent claims the incident was minor and that the singer for Velvet Revolver was not on drugs.
Police were investigating a non-injury accident around 6:18 pm in Van Nuys and suspected Weiland, determined to be at fault in the wreck, might be impaired. He reportedly was not able to satisfactorily perform a series of field sobriety tests. Weiland voluntarily submitted to a breath test, though he refused to take a blood or urine test.
The former lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots has been arrested numerous times for a variety of offenses, including a California DUI conviction in 2003, buying crack cocaine in 1995 and domestic violence in 2001.
Weiland was released on $40,000 bail, which is significantly higher than average bail for a misdemeanor DUI but may be due to his past arrests. He is scheduled to appear in court December 13.
Weiland, 40, has cited his family as the reason for putting his drug years behind him, saying, “I don't think anymore about getting high.”

Mike Tyson to Spend One Day in Jail for DUI
Sentence stems from last year’s Arizona DUI and drug possession charges.
Mike Tyson was sentenced to ten days in jail for driving under the influence and cocaine possession, but will only be required to serve one day. He could have been sent to jail for 3.75 years for drug charge and six months for DUI. Tyson was placed on probation for three years for each count and he must perform the equivalent of 45 days of community service, pay a fine and submit to regular drug testing.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Helene Abrams said she was impressed that Tyson sought help immediately after his arrest and has since used his sports celebrity to teach young adults about drug addiction.
‘Iron Mike’ Tyson, the 41-year-old former world heavyweight boxing champion, was stopped in suburban Phoenix last December for erratic driving shortly after leaving a nightclub. Police found cocaine in Tyson’s black BMW and determined he was driving under the influence. In September, Tyson pleaded guilty to one felony count of drug possession and one misdemeanor DUI charge.
Prosecutors were disappointed in the sentence. They had sought one year in prison because of Tyson’s arrest record. He is a registered sex offender because of a 1992 rape conviction and he was found guilty of two assault charges in 1999. He was also involved in a brawl in a New York City hotel in 2004. Tyson’s defense attorneys requested probation, stating that the boxer had passed 29 drug tests in his effort to overcome his addictions.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio also criticized the sentence, saying he didn’t like the appearance of special treatment for celebrities and that Tyson should have spent one year in jail for DUI. Arpaio indicated Tyson will be sent to ‘Tent City’ though the boxer will be separated from other inmates. Tyson said in court, “I take responsibility for my actions.” Judge Abrams suspended all but one day of the sentence, as Arizona law requires DUI offenders to spend at least 24 hours in jail. Tyson will serve his jail sentence immediately.Tags:
